Just thinking about note taking.

The room I play at doesn't have brilliant note fields and its quite hard to type in sometimes as when the action is on me the mouse cursor seems to default out of the text box. Just wondering if anybody uses notepad to make more detailed notes? I am looking at moving up from 4nl to 10nl at the moment and as I have a bit of capacity (ie only 2 tabling for a bit), would it be worthwhile to make extra detailed notes on the regs?

Does anybody do anything similar? How useful do you find it?

Or any comments on what kind of information you think is best to take would be appreciated.

Cheers

I take what I call style notes. Do they chase for a large % of theirstack? Do they play suited anything? Do they play tight?Limp w aa kk etc. I want to know tendencies, how they will normally play.

since i play in pokerstars, i just use the note settings in its software, also use a lot colors to label players, but i just take notes seldom, when my mood is ok to play and take notes at the same time, for instance when i´m playing passive, the time structure is slow enough, etc, but when i´m in a mood to be more agressive and more loose or the structure is turbo or faster then no notes a tall

Taking notes in poker is quite crucial at some point , for example I play a lot of heads up and I play a lot of the same players over again so keeping track of their betting style or a certain way they play can really help. Sometimes if I know I can't beat a player because he is really good I avoid him/her at any cost

Taking notes is a good tools for improving your bankroll. I do not known why your poker room is making that difficult but majority of poker rooms will let you make notes very easy.

I do the same things with the colours. I label pushovers, aggressive players and people who bluff a lot. I tend to do it more when i play HU SnGs as there are a lot of regulars there

I label myself during gameplay. Trying to recognize what others perceive my actions and or demeanor as if anything at all.

Then I go from there taking mental notes. Lock poker is a great software, being able to see hole cards any hand is crazy. And for that matter, I like being able to see if someone was bluffing. Great for mtt play imo. Have not tried the cash games.

I often play at the same poker room as you and know what you mean about the clunky note taking although i think its better since they updated the software. I tend to colour code and I now take in depth notes as i see some pretty strange and horrendous plays at 4nl. e.g players who limp AA's utg and then shoves any flop etc. A quick note is vital.

Good luck at 10NL let me know if the quality of play at 10NL is a lot harder. Hoping to be up at those dizzy heights soon.

I do not known why your poker room is making that difficult but majority of poker rooms will let you make notes very easy.

Because the software at some sites only enables you to make very minimal amount of notes (ie. iPoker network you can only make like 4 short lines of notes... not nearly enough space imo... maybe for 1 line for basic player style & a few lines for very concise abbreviated HH notes).

I don't bother opening up anything else for adding notes. Just take it for what it is... 'not so great'.

I did not write down notes because sometimes you can fool.
There are people who play any hands for that purpose to deceive that they are weak and the next time you play against them it can become unforgivable mistake :D

notes should give as much detail about a person as they can. Your notes should help you get into some ones head and figure out how they think.

Making a note such as "fish" or something like that doesn't help you at all

Also by taking notes it keeps you more involved in the game at hand and if your paying more attention then your play becomes more adjusted to the players your playing against. You end up playing somewhat better since your actually paying attention to whats all going on at the table instead of finding somethng else to do like reading emails or searching the web..

Of course that is true.
But you can not describe the game of a man just with one note right?

the ones that have helped me the most are when i color code people a certain color.

for example yellow would mean: doesnt fold/calls down with worse. (get value)
and purple would mean, bad aggro,(cbets allflops and doesnt give up on turn(so that i can call him down lighter if needed)

Notes are crucial if your playing zoom or rush poker and wanna be a winning player.

That's why u keep adding notes to a player as much as you can till eventually your notes can remind you exactly how to get in to his mind and remember how he/she thinks

Example of notes to add:

How often does a player C bet, how often do they c bet on a board they shouldn't c bet on, how often do they show down the nuts, w/e it is u can to get an edge

if it's good to take notes of the villains, especially if they play them at that level. will help to detect the lying, which is aggressive, and fish ..

Do you make extra notes?

Morning all

I have just decided to up my note taking.

I am using a wordpad document for each reg and pasting the existing notes into there, from that I can then add extra notes dating each comment added. It is then possible to remove or mention that a previous mistake the villain used to make is no longer evident.

I have reaised that my existing notes are pretty sketchy. Just wondering if anybody else does this?

i think its easier to just take notes on the site

sometimes if my notes dont "jive" i try to investigate the villians stats and if they dont support the note i will remove the note

this might happen in a situation where you have thousands of hands on the villian and they show the villian never 3bets, but your notes say he 3bets a lot etc

Normally will just keep notes on the site. Playing forum games there is normally enough history where notes are unnecessary.

I not take any notes right now because it would be almost pointless (Boavada). I tried taking notes before but I sort gave up on it. I might give a try again though if I play at a diffrent site.
