I listen to music at live games when there isn't a lot going on audibly at the table. A bunch of quiet people or conversation from people not involved in the hand not about poker don't interest me, because I don't know who Willy is and I sure don't care how many chicken nuggets he ate last week.

But when people start giving poker lessons, man do I love listening. It's like the blind leading the blind.

I'll listen to music occasionally when I'm playing online but never when I'm playing live - or at least, not my own music on headphones. There might be music on in the background in the room or something, pretty sure that doesn't count. I just don't want to be "that guy" who's holding the game up asking for information he would've already had if he had've been paying attention instead of listening to music.

If I listen to music live it's not so loud I can't hear what's going on. Usually one earbud in, with enough volume I can tell what's going on. I still want to know if somebody says or does something that could give me information... But some of my sessions become quite long.

I need music to play poker esp. ONLINE. I swear I have A.D.D. and I cannot stop doing other things while I'm playing poker. Live poker, I don't do it that much because there are real people at the table and I can see and talk to him.

I listen to it when I'm playing online unless I have a friend watching. Like Exorcist, though, I don't listen live because I can't not listen to music loudly.

Online I love to listen to music, helps with the "patience factor". Music reduces the boredom so I don't feel the need to act or over-react.

It depends on the genre of music, I usually love listening to rock and rap but during poker its distracting. I heard a lot of pros listen to classical music to calm them down and help them think better.

There is nothing like a great tune in the Background to keep you focused.

Mostly the classics for me, Beatles, Pink Floyd, and the Boss. Lately I have found a new band called Muse with some good poker playing tunes.

I usually do but when I really want to concentrate I turn it off. Cause once it's on I start searching for songs, fiddling around with itunes and downloading new music, and my view shifts away from my table to my music.

I find the part about "Being that Guy" really funny...I recall a couple yea rs back there were these bar games, and I swear even though we were playing for 650+ not to mention there would be about 100 ppl that bought into the games And I was always that Guy with the MP3 player...

Though it made the games long it actually helped me with concealing my tells

It depends on my mood...no matter what I have some sort of noise on in the background, whether it be me listening to my itunes or a movie on the TV...I gotta have sound, that's just me in general, though, I can't stand being in silence. (Yes, I am that guy that breaks the silence with a random dumb movie quote or action, basically anything that'll induce noise.)

For those of you worried about being distracted by picking the songs you're listening to, you need to check out Pandora.com. It's what I use.

The Shins are good, also I like the Kooks, really nostalgic sound it helps me stay grounded when I'm playing long sessions online.
For live play, I never listen to music...although maybe I should, so I don't give away too much info...idk though it seems it would diminish the experience more than enhance it.

Yeah, I hate players who listen to their MP3 player during live play, because they constantly ask "How much is the raise?" "What are the blinds?" "You're all in, how much?" If they weren't listening to their MP3 player all the time, they would know the answers to these questions.

But there's Benefits to this though...

I remember like I stated When I use to play these Bar Tourneys I like I had stated would listen to my MP3 player, but like someone else Stated I would keep the Volume down and One ear piece on while the other dangled around...Now the Benefit to this is A)We can Question the Said person to find out how much, there AI was, There-Fore letting us have a better Chance to actually come to A more Accurate conclusion in the Said Scenario...B)Makes PPL actually become Impatient which is once again Beneficial to Us also....C)Concealing tells...(This only implies to hands which your involved in)...I can keep on going If you like...(These are also from my own experience/Obeservation only btw)

music is good!

I think music is an advantage because it will help you stay off boredom. I mean, poker can get boring right when the cards don't come, so some music might actually help improve patience. Also if you make it loud enough, you can ignore other people and just play your game without getting distracted in conversation and like limping in with the wrong hands etc. something like that
