Do you keep your winnings, losses and profits private?
Ive only seriously been playing poker for a few months, but its turned into a real hobby and something im striving to become very good at and something im passionate about.
My parents know I play online for real money
, but they know its only micro-stakes and Ive never discussed my winnings or losses with them. Ive played something like 50k hands at 5NL now and im breaking even and know if i continue to work hard on improving I have the potential to be a winning player.
Its annoying though when you tell people you play online poker, family start telling me to be careful and dont get drawn in etc. Like a few days ago when I told my parents im planning my first live session soon, they didnt say it but I could tell they werent exactly all for me doing it. People who dont know much about poker seem to automatically have a negative attitude towards it. When they dont know how hard and how much effort it takes actually be a winning player, and how skillful that person is. Anyone who is a winning player at poker is very talented IMO. But people call it a "mugs game"? You're only a mug if you continue to play and lose money and dont put any effort in to study and get better.
Is it best just to not discuss your winnings/ losses and situation you are in with poker. Like for example, someone asks how much you have made this week playing. A week in the grand scheme of things is nothing to us players and doesnt prove anything about how "good" you are.
I think its best just to keep info to yourself? What do your family and friends think about you playing poker?
