i was just curious to how many of you guys have like a goal or a limit that you have won than call it a day? do you earn mayb 2BI's? maybe 3? After you reach your goal do you quit or do you wait until youve lost like .5BI's? i know there's a lot of you that dont partake in this, but maybe some of you do. I'd like to hear some thoughts on this and if you do have goals, how do you handle them after youve reached your goal?

If I have some goal, it is that I have fun. I play poker just for fun and try to avoid heavy losses, but if I win something big, or even little, it is welcome and im happy. I dont want to hit me head into wall :banghead: so I play so called softly and I enjoy it. Someones I know, have had so big losses, so I know what it is and dont want to feel it myself.

Totally agree with this looking at it as "fun" takes the seriousness out of it. Any money staked should be seen as money lost anything more is a bonus

It all depends on what stakes you play. usually having a day in the profit of around $150 isnt bad at all. You can get by with making that each day, but the more the better

The only games that I do this with are Craps and baccarat. You can run good in the short term, but the fundamental nature of the game is biased against the player. Stay too long, and you will lose. (I've seen lots of times when it seemed as if the sevens were erased from those dice, the numbers, hardways, and prop rolls hit and hit for some truly juicy wins, but I have never seen one take it home.)

When it comes to Poker, no, definitely no. If your concentration is good, the fishies have loads of chips, or are reloading, or there are fish waiting to join the game, I'll play as long as possible, regardless of outcome. If you have the advantage, why not capitalize by corralling as much as your mathematical expectation will allow?

Sure, you can work up a nice stack, then stack off to a nasty cooler, but coolers are part of the game, and can occur at any time. On the other hand, you can stay after winning two buys, then win three more. No predicting that, but one thing you never hear is anyone's asking: "Why didn't you quit when you were $X ahead?" after you've taken home $10X.

Setting "goals" is not only bad mathematically, as you'd be foolish for walking away from a rich donk-a-thon where you could win much more, barring outside circumstances that could make you -EV (too tired to concentrate properly, some fresh players have joined the game, the arrival of opponents better than you, etc).

They're also bad psychologically, and can lead to minimum win/maximum loss scenarios where you frustrate yourself by getting close to the daily goal, then getting coolered. Trying to win it back is certain to lead to total disaster.

It's better to satisfy yourself that you're +EV, making good decisions, playing properly, and letting the wins and losses take care of themselves.

The very last session I played was all win/lose, up/down and at one point I had 2BI. Lost it all to a cooler, got chopped down some more over a six hour run. The table thinned out and it looked like the game would break, but, forch, the remaining players were willing to play 4, 3, and 2 way. Went to my A short game (the other fish didn't adjust) straddled every button 3 way, and outplayed them post. Took home 3BI+ when the game finally did break two hours later. If I left with 2BI, I would've cost myself a bunch. Other times, the happy ending (@#&*^!!!) didn't happen, but you can't worry about that.

I've switched my game up today and glad I didn't really set a goal like I thought I might had an awesome run and I'm up almost 8.5 BI's over a course of like 800 hands. I got lucky a couple hands but most of it I've really done some good reads I've stole a lot of decent pots and had the nuts when I needed them. I think I'm going to stick with the style I've been playing and have no goal set.

you can't set a goal how many but ins you want to win per a day, or how much cash...Since you will have bad and good sessions, it's just important to play good and watch it on long terms, whether you make profit or not. :)

My goal is try to stop when I'm not playing my best game, but this is very difficult for me to do that. Sometimes, I know that my game is not good anymore, but, for some reason, I keep playing. :(

The last couple days I've completely changed my game. I only play 1-2 hour sessions, and take frequent breaks. playing too long throws my game off so i try to keep the sessions like and hour, then take 20+ mins for a break. It's a lot more profitable for me this way. I've also reduced my tabling to half. i used to play 8-12 tables but now I'm playing 4-6. and I've been maximizing my profits, and minimizing my losses by doing this.

My goal is to play every hand right and not get attached to any hands or pot, I tend to make that mistake alot.

i quit if i lose 100, or win 300, if i could take money off the table i would stay but i dont want to lose 500 on one hand, i would be too depressed
