Care to share the mind games you play on your opponents?

Here is one I play regularly when I come across a tight weak player...

I will start off by bluffing the mess outa them every chance I get.

But I make sure my bluff pattern is very specific and predictable ie.. flop bet, turn, bet, river bet (same amount each time)

Then when I get busted I will do the exact same thing but this time I will have the nuts..

Hopefully he will think Im bluffing and play more aggressive and I can get all his chips.

Do you ever do this or anything like it?

Im sure there are more advances deeper level thinking that can be put into action. Id love your feedback!

thanks!

So, let me get this straight, you let him bust you, just so you can bust him back...?

If you mean you purposely lose an entire stack to build an image, this is simply wrong and very stupid. As well, you make no reference to stakes and format. Even tho that wont make much difference.

but in theory yes your right you should be adjusting your ranges based on your image and therefore your opponents ranges and your percieved range on different board textures, but when just starting out online you should just be nitting ep, stealing like a demon, and value betting.

I am NOT knitting while i play, it's multitasking, soppy, and besides, the kids have enough hats and scarves :D

Not a whole stack.

If hes a tight/weak player I usually make more than I lose.

If I bluff him 10 times and win then... bluff him one more time and lose, how is that losing?

Ive won 10 times and lost only once.

So I won 100.00 and lost 10.00

The next time I will make sure to bet the same way and have the nutts then take his entire stack.

He will think Im bluffing and many times re-raise me with a medium hand (like a pair or two pair).

Then I will take his whole stack with trips or better.

Ive put a lot of players off tilt this way.

OK, in your OP you said "busted" so I assumed you meant stacks.

But, yea, building an image by making a -ev play for a small amount vs a player who you can later exploit cause of this, sure, thats fine.

Soooooo... PokerMutts. Can you come over and teach my home game group a few of these lessons?

These old farts could use a lesson or two on the new young guns way of playing poker.

If you are going to play like this why not just bluff and win the pot then show your bluff. You don't need to loose money to get people to pay you off.

Youre right in live games this would work but not online.

I have seen many approach's to a mind game, never one that allows yourself to bust a stack. I do believe in losing to win sometimes, but I think that is a bit counter-productive.

lol shockingly I've ran into a ton of players that seem to be very fond of this 'mind game'.

...I've grown quite fond of them doing it too

The positive correlation between bad players and "mind games" is quite amazing.

Do things like hand reading and astute observation and you will actually become a much better player.

Just so's you know Mutts. Get talkative in chat and most of the good players immediately note you for future withdrawal.

Here's a hint. When you get friend requests, it's not because they like your cutting wit.

So you're risking your whole stack to start with in the hope of winning a stack back of him?

This seems like a losing bet to start of with.

Wouldnt not showing your hands keep them guessing as well.

Showing your hands only stumps the fish. The better players will start to take advantage of it.
