Do you ever feel bad for cashing in on beginners?

I consider myself a beginner - just started playing again after several years break. I re-read my books, lots of posts and articles and managed to last about 12,000 hands on 6-max NL2 and NL5 to burn my first $30. I played a lot of Zoom tables to get lots of hands and to get the starting hand charts back into my brain.

I went back to normal NL2 tables now and find some players seem so innocent....taking their chips almost makes me feel like taking away sweets from children. :( Not that anyone ever showed any pity taking my stacks.

How do you feel about this? Do you ever feel bad for taking people's stacks on micro?

When my friends or other people ask me about poker I try teach them or make them understand my perpective, but I just make that out of tables, advicing beginners on tables I considering an ungame because to be best than most players in limits you play is the soul of the game, that beginners need to control their minds but a lot of them are not prepared to hear about what they need to learn. If you want to help them, make it out not in tables.

I mean if they sit down with the money it’s up for grabs. If you can’t deal with taking it maybe this isn’t your game...

Thank you for your thoughts!

I am not in a position to teach anyone. I am way too bad myself and struggle to break even on NL2. But I suppose commenting on a table would be very pretentious and bad mannered.

I mean if they sit down with the money it’s up for grabs. If you can’t deal with taking it maybe this isn’t your game...

The remorse is usually very short lived :D In the end every hand you play is a learning opportunity, right? Also, I guess everybody has to learn the hard way (I am getting heavily busted myself frequently). I guess you're right - it's everybody's own responsibility to learn the game.

The short answer is no. I was once a beginner and I learned by paying attention to how people that seemed to beat me all of the time played. Who am I to deny a person their misery.

In all honesty, if I suck out on someone I'll feel bad because I know if I was in their position I would be pissed as hell. On the other hand I'm excited to win and it's all part of the game.I am a little skeptical though because when I suck out on someone I just know that sometime in the near future "karma" will come and someone will suck out on me.

"poker is a barbaric game , played by gentlemen" just somethng I heard at an underground game I played at.

Another thing i was told, " you have to be willing to take your Grandmother for every last dime"

Quite a profession, preying on the weak.

As some people already said, it's just a game, so no bad feelings either way. What is more, one should encourage his predator instinct from time to time. I think playing poker against various opponents is a good opportunity.

Yes, I feel bad and then use the search feature to see where else they're playing. :)

Everyone who enters the game knows that they might end up losing it all. They voluntarily put their money into the game so from there on my only mission is to win that money for myself. That's poker. I believe that Doyle Brunson has once said that you have to have a killer instinct to succeed in this game and I agree. I might feel sorry for them in a human way but I never regret taking their money, and definitely never let that effect my game. I always try to get as much as I can from them. In poker it's every man and woman for themselves.
