Do we only count the ones won?

Many poker websites publish news of PRO players who win spectacular sums of money in live tournaments as well as online tournaments.

Some players even seem to have their own websites where they are always seen as winners.

There are other known players who publish their collections and earnings on social networks such as twitter or instagram.

Now the publications never come out or they tell you the money they lose.

The question is:

only the earnings count?

Do you think that losses are equated to the sums they earn?

Leave your comment:call2:

Yes there is a big difference between how much somebody cashes for and how much of that is profit will normally be way lower due to buy ins over a long time.
While high turnover is impressive can be misleading players can cash for a million+ dollars during a year and be up or down a few thousand due to buy ins easily in the higher stakes it depends.

If you are a regular player, then you should be in the black at a distance, if poker is a hobby, then winnings will be rare)

The famous (and annoying) question: But how much did you lose?

They always publish the cashes, not the profits, it is also hard to track.

Even Daniel Negreanu admitted in one year, he won Millions and Millions but was -60k or something. Not easy :)

Sites for poker news always show the winnings because if they want to earn money they need to attract constantly new players so that the game continues to grow. And easiest way to do so is to show you the winnings of players - you look at them and say "well i can also do that". Players themselves also only show their wins because otherwise their prestige will be harmed and this is also part of the marketing strategy. Poker nowadays is much different than the early days where gamblers were trying to take each other's money. Today there is marketing everywhere and many top players earn significant part of their money not by directly playing but as sponsorships from the big poker sites which in turn use them and their image to attract new players.

Saying that i am sure that every good player have notes and knows exactly how much money he/she had invested in poker and what is the return and balance.

German Fedor Holz between 2016 and 2017 won just over $ 20 million in live and online tournaments.

Many of the tournaments won were the result of stock sales (money he had to pay back).

He then spent $ 1.6 million on buy-ins at the Super High Roller Bowl, recording the world's most expensive single-player spending on entry.

Years later he admitted ... "Currently my poker bankroll is much smaller"

Losing is the downside of poker, which rooms don't like to show. We are told about large winnings, but no one says that this winnings can be devoured at a higher limit or in an online casino

you can win a million, but in fact it will be a smaller amount, because you need to consider the money spent on training poker software, and the entrances to tournaments.

It is in the poker room rooms interest to only post winnings. This promotes poker, no one would join if they say people actually loosing money. They only post tournament wins anyway and if you have hit even 500 grand you are most likely way ahead. Any big loss would come from cash games and that's on you. So all time money winnings is from tournaments and loses are separate cash games.

If you don't advertise, you have no customers. This is also the case with the winners' posts to encourage as many players as possible to invest money in poker with the thought that they will win as well.

interesting question.
I believe that to attract new players or new members to the teams, it is more attractive to publish only the earnings.

I was convinced here that in poker there is an investment, not a loss. You invest, and then, as in business, you either have a loss or a profit.
After the news about the win, it is probably embarrassing to write that you lost a lot so that you are not considered a loser.

This question I was asking myself too. A lot of pro poker players have millions of winnings but nobody know how much they lost

I kept tabs on my bankroll a couple years ago. Was funny/not-funny when I realized at the end of the year that I had spent $102,000 on poker and only made $105,000.

Obviously, most players brag about winning money and almost no one shows a loss. Poker, a game that no doubt can bring a decent profit but losses is also an integral part of this game.

I agree with my friend, but if you want to appear as a good professional player and that your game is going very well, at the end of the year you can tweet:

"Poker balance at end of year with winnings of $ 105,000"

The $ 102,000 purchase doesn't even mention it!:confused::confused:

Well, some count losses.

Bryn Kenney, professional player of the High Rollers circuit stated:

That 2018 was a difficult year. Despite winning nearly $ 5 million in tournaments, it was the first year that it ended in losses.

... "Yes, 2018 was the first time I had a losing year. Eliminating a couple of tournaments that I would hardly have lost, but the reality is that I did not achieve many victories and lost many great all-ins. Maybe I was not playing well but last year I just crushed everything. They just happen "...

... "I guess if you play everything, you will be between 6 and 7 million in buy-ins, maybe between 6 and 8 million if you go to Asia" ...

If you know of any other players who declare their losses, please comment below

No, I think that in order to win a large sum of money you must first lose as much. There is of course an exception, but these are only a few.

You need to looke at the ABI, ROI, the number of games played, and not just a profit indicator.

I agree with your philosophy. We should all be aware of the problems that gambling can bring. Thanks for bringing a little light

There are players who count only victories and others the losses. The good thing is to have a balance and always study and analyze both victories and defeats.

Well ... it will always be more attractive and productive for the poker business ... publishing the winnings and prizes of the great poker players ... that attracts more players to the poker industry ... but the truth is that in At some point everyone has lost and had a bad streak

Of course there are always losses, but I think in a competition what matters is the victories.
