I don't know if anyone has heard of the name of the game, because it is a local name for a card game, which I am trying to find the real game. Below i will outline the rules, and appreciate if anyone can help me trace its origin.

Dishrag poker:

Number of players:2-8

Game: variation on five card draw

Materials: One deck of 52 cards, a container or dish of some kind, 4x tokens or pennies or dollars or chips (some sort of counters) for each player present. (I use pennies, but the number can be adjusted as you please)

Rules: Dish rag poker is a variation on 5 card stud or draw. 4 pennies are given to each player, and the dish is placed in the middle of the table. One player is designated dealer, and deals 5 cards to everyone one at a time, but DEALS TWO hands FOR HIMSELF. The dealer* chooses one of the hands, and discards the rest of the deck. If he likes the hand he has, he keeps the five cards, and places the other hand on the table. If he does not like his hand, he places in on the table (face up) and keeps his new hand.

two's are wild and can be used as any card the holder wishes. The object of the game is to get the best poker hand possible. After the 5 cards are on the table, they become community cards, and the player to the left of the dealer goes next. Player two must choose to switch one of the community cards with one of the cards in his hand. This continues around the table. When someone feels they have a good five card hand, they knock on the table, and the last round of picking cards happens. The person who knocks cannot pick up a card before or after they knock. After they place returns to the player who knocks, everyone shows their hands, and the lowest loses, and must place a penny in the dish.

*If the person who knocks has the lowest hand, they must place two pennies in the dish*

*five of a kind is the best hand, and if someone gets that hand, they place it on the table, and everyone except them pays one penny*

*this can happen before or after someone knocks, (someone does not have to knock for them to show their five of a kind)

*The dealer can be either male or female, but i shall denote the dealer as he.

when there is only one player left, he wins all of the money in the dish, the usual game with 8 people may take up to 1.5 hours, but it can be less.

Please feel free to ask questions for clarification, as this may be a little confusing to the outsider.

Cheers,

Isaac

Don't know this game, but it sounds funny...

I just don't understand how you get 5 of a kind when you use 52 cards...?!

Sounds like a variation of "Knock Poker"... where each player is dealt 5 cards.. after the cards are dealt, the rest of the deck is placed in the middle of the table face down, and then the top card is turned over next to the deck, face up.

The player to the left of the dealer has the option to draw from the deck or take the face up card and then discard a card in his hand. This goes around the table to each player until one player knocks when he thinks he has the best hand. Each player after would get one more draw to try and make the best hand they can, and when it comes back to the knocker, the players show their hand, and best hand wins.

EDIT:

Found a page for it.

Never

Never have I even seen or even heard of anything resembling that.Doesn't sound to appealing in the least. It's just something that does not seem to appealing.Don't quite understand it actually and that is probably the main reason why it's not something that seems playable.

Just wanted to let you know that after my home cash game this weekend, I brought up the idea of this game to my buddies. We started playing, and the next thing you know we had played 10 games of it until 4 in the morning.

One thing that took some getting used to is that a straight in this game means nothing with only 3 people. It is very easy to get full houses, quads, and straight flushes. We even had two 5 of a kind hands. I would imagine that if we had more people the hands would get weaker.

We did change it up a bit, we made a standard buy-in of 20 bucks, and gave each player 8 chips to make the game last a little longer.

IF YOU HAVENT PLAYED THIS GAME I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING SO, YOU WILL BE HOOKED!!

Thanks issac.

I have no idea of the game you are talking about. There are so many varieties of poker and I've played many them where the dealer makes the choice. Dueces wild, Low hole card and all alike it are wild, high card in the hole splits the pot or low hole in the hole splits the pot, 5 card draw, 7 card stud, etc. I did enjoy the "I shoot every third canvaser. The second one just left." As of late it appears that the 'Do Not Call' program is not working well as I get more and more salesmen calls now and I simply don't answer after looking at Caller ID. I have a "NO SOLITION" sign on the door as for the past couple of months I get so many showing up at the door wanting this or that. Tired of it. Will use your slogan on my door. Thought it was good/funny. Hope you get the answer to your question. Good luck.
