I knew it was going to be this hand before I clicked on the topic. Many called it the greatest televised bluff of all time. My favourite part was Tom correcting Eli about who had the best hand in the pot.
I remember a pretty interesting thread about the hand in the VIP area of the old pokerroad forums. Barry was discussing the hand and talking about Tom and w/e and a bunch of other guys were all criticizing Barry huge partly for his poor play in the pot but mainly for his opinion on Tom's game. Greenstein actually seemed to think that Dwan got to where he is by turning over garbage in every big pot he plays. Jimmy Fricke and justin Bonomo and I don't remember who else were ripping Barry. Eastgate was also in there basically reiterating what he said on cardplayer about buying in too deep and not playing properly because of it, and then Dwan himself posted just to clarify that he has TT there a "not insignificant amount of the time".
Dwan really polarized his hand to a bluff or nut type of hand. On one hand he played his hand really strong and firing on the turn even with Eastgate cold calling a 3bet on the flop. On the other hand, if Dwan had 1010 would he really raise in that spot. I would think he would be more likely to flat call on the flop. So I believe he is more likely representing a 2 in his hand.
This is one of my favourite hands of all time, and the reason why he's my favourite player. When I saw this play for the first time I was like "he's firing off money into oblivion" but he finds the thinnest edges and pushes them.
Really don't understand why Eastgate plays 42o if he's gonna be folding flopped trips, was he only hoping for 444 flop?
Yes the biggest wtf here is Eastgate laying down his hand, but I suppose this is because he is a good player (though i agree with why play it in the first place if only to lay it down). Yep Dwan great bluff, repping A2 or K2, ballsy play and it worked.
On the other hand, if Dwan had 1010 would he really raise in that spot. I would think he would be more likely to flat call on the flop. So I believe he is more likely representing a 2 in his hand.
i can easy understand the pair of asses folding, but not the one with the 2. but one thing its true playing for that amount of money making decisions is totally different. and he had guts, them!
