I haven't experienced any type of discrimination, but I know that sometimes communication between players/dealers can be an issue where I play in Seoul. Sometimes its a mix of players who only speak Hangul, Russian, Japanese, or even between Chinese players themselves (who speak different dialects), although English is supposed to be the only language at the table, but they don't speak it. So when an issue or argument arises, the person on the losing end usually feels slighted and sometimes they feel discriminated against.

No, never. I've found that poker players are happy to play with anyone: young or old, male or female, black, white or Asian, etc. It doesn't matter who you are, just as long as you know the game and don't abuse other players.

I'm tired of seeing various forms of discrimination at the poker table, I think if the guy took a bad he must keep focused and ball forward, but some prefer not to curse the face of black and various other words that will not Sita here, but poker game today day very yes.

people make fun of my online name Proud2Bwhack a lot. name discrimination is not cool. There is a guy on Carbon called GayCorpse who draws a lot of fire! Overall, Poker players are amazingly cool, never heard a racial slur, etc.

this is one of the reasons I like poker so much.

Because its very difficult for people to do this in any significant way.

to explain, I have often found people assume that I am stupid due to been autistic. I am not I had the official IQ test and score 144.

However this does not matter if at work my boss assumes I am stupid regardless of the results or my capabilities i can be told to shut up ignored or the worse assumed of me.

meaning i can be a situation where no matter how hard i work or what i achieve my fate is always less then desirable sometimes you get despondent with this.

at a poker table though they can make there assumptions and get punished for it. regardless of how smart or stupid people think I am if I am playing the game right they cant stop me no one can.

I guess there will always be better players, but if they can beat me they can have higher win rates elsewhere, or higher win rates at higher stakes. either way win or lose they are hurting themselves coming for me.

It is one of the few areas where I feel people cannot stop me if i put the work in.

sure people can assume that someone is an idiot because they are X whether X be autism or black or any other stereo type, they can interpret wins as luck and losses as deserved. They can call me an idiot for a play and refuse to listen to any explanation.

But after all is said and done My results and decisions answer to maths not then.

It's always the same how Germans and sometimes Austrians are insulted, bet you heard or read it also not only once. I also feel attacked in that case even if a German is meant but the only thing I do is to disable chat. I thought of telling a Moderator some times but therefor I'm not long enough mad

I've had chat bans a few times when retaliating to a morons comments, it is not a deterrent, I was banned for 2 weeks once and I sent an email and told them what the real meaning of the word I used and asked them what was so bad about that, my chat was reinstated straight away, another time I was chat banned for 2 hours, chat banning is a joke.

To the OP just ignore them or if it bothers you block the chat.

I once had someone ask me if I had rotten teeth coz they saw I was from UK. I think they just try to bait you to get into an argument about something to try and put you off your A-game.
Best not to retaliate at all. In what way would it benefit you if you did? Answer to maths/statistics, nothing else.

A couple of times I have played live games where men really didn't want women in the games. I just try to stay focused and play the best I can. Overall it's not much fun to play when people are always routing against you. But it is fun to beat the rude people!

You play on ACR and have "never heard a racial slur"??

At minimum 20% of bustouts or severe knockdowns are followed by the N word all over the place. I, personally, have been called a stupid N probably somewhere between 25-50 times, which would offend me if I wasn't more white than Howdy Doody.

Learned me to never piss you off Z!

I love poker in the USA because it is so diverse, at my poker rooms any given day we will have 10-15, or more, nationalities represented at any given time (especially with being so close to Dearborn, especially in our cash games. Live - it keeps the real idiots out of the game because one comment and you are kicked out of most rooms, even against women, I threw a guy out last week that was drunk and called the two ladies at the table bitches. He apologized the next week so I didnt ban him. It is a game that is played worldwide, so most of the haters cant play - LOVE IT!

Online is a different story - with no real way to tell who people are, the haters come out to hate - thats why online can be such a nasty place, someone can come and say whatever they want with no accountability, you even see it here, opens the door for the children who need attention. Which is one reason why I always prefer live

Sometimes people fall of the handle when perhaps drunk and getting torn up at the table, this does not necessarily mean they believe in their words, they are still jerks, but just in a different way.

That clears up so much for me. I saw your screenname and thought Detroit but then I thought you mentioned floor managment in Vegas so I thought you were just another transplant who still had love for his hometown. I had no idea you were still there.

Michigan is the only one of the 4 states here that I am pretty positive I haven't played in. Many times considered going to New Buffalo to play (visited as a kid) but could never seem to get my car past the super soft games in East Chicago, IN. :)

yea, still in the D, I dealt wsop in 2014,2015 and have many friends in Vegas, but I floor in Metro D, will def be back at WSOP next year though

4 Winds in New Buffalo has electric table poker, no dealers, it is a chipless casino, fyi (at least was a few years ago, prob still is) poker there not that good. Go to FireKeepers if that far west of D. Hammond is OBV the best place in that area, though not Michigan, but FK rocks! Great tourneys good cash

poker

um, awesome

and with no dealers, who do I yell at, throw my cards and try to get them to hit me for assault? oh wait, there aren't even any cards to throw! My usual antics won't work!

on a serious note, though, doesn't really matter ATM because I won't be leaving the state anytime soon

I played on ACR for a while as well and never heard one either.

If Proud2Bwhack is European or playing at more non-US-appropriate times, then it's very likely that that alone explains a lack of encountering the N-word, imo.

As for the OP:

Have I ever been insulted at the tables? Often.
Have I ever been experienced discrimination? No.

How do I counter it? I just ignore it. I hardly ever chat anyway, unless it's the occasional "nh" (or unless it's a CC freeroll).
I just take insulting as a sign of tilt. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.
But I generally don't care what people think of me anyway. Apathy FTW! :D
