The reason I keep going bust is because this guy staked me around $50 i won it back paid him back took out my $50 and asked him to give another $50 I figured it was the best way anyway I lost it down the line and asked for $60 and wanted to just double up real fast to pay him back and be even but turns out i lost in the heads up so i asked him to do it again he did and I tried to double up real fast and it didnt work out. Anyway i owe the guy about $220, and Im just curious as to if i put $50 what limits should I play to gradually build? Like $5 sngs? $6 sngs? =( I dug a hole.

Also I wont lie im only 17 (3 months till 18)

Not to sound condescending, but have you considered finding a non-poker way to repay your backer and stop gambling underage with other people's money?

Yea that works

Ill get a job for a few weeks well i cant actually but ill get it

Im gonna work hard to get my "High roller (dont flame me for that)" Gameplay undercontrol god only knows what will work out lol.

Its stupid because i lost mostly to bad beats aa lost to 77 when board gave him a set, and aj flush lost to a full house when board paired

but i guess thats why you dont play at such a high % of your br because bad beats happen?

You don't play a high percentage of your BR because beats will happen. Your BR has to be able to withstand the losses that will happen. If you're "high rolling" and playing stakes that are a big percentage of your BR, then a loss could be devastating.

If you have a BR of $60, I suggest playing the $2.25 SNGs and really grind it out. Its going to be a long process, but it'll give you a better chance to manage your BR and slowly work your way up to making the money you owe.

But, to grind it out, you have to be good enough to win. The average person is not good enough. That is another reality that excapes the masses. Desire won't cut it.

^^^^ this.

Hence the advice: find a non-poker related means of paying the money back, and stop gambling underage with other people's money.

Maybe you are good enough to make a profit playing poker. But for crying out loud, wait until you're old enough and use your own money to find out. If you turn 18 in three months anyway, it's not that long a wait.

This is false, pokerstars requires you to be 18

pokerstars.com said:
  • Every person signing up for a new account at PokerStars must check a box that indicates that they are at least 18 years of age. This notifies everybody that we don’t accept players under 18.
  • When a player creates an account with PokerStars, we collect their name, address, and birth date to confirm that the player is at least 18 years old.
  • PokerStars does not target underage players with our marketing and advertising. It is neither good business nor consistent with our personal and corporate values to attract underage players.

Oy. Where do I begin? Well first, the obvious part is, if you're underage, you shouldn't be playing. And to get yourself in debt as well? BAD IDEA.

Secondly, if you don't have the money to play, YOU SHOULDN'T. You're starting off on a bad road so young to be in debt to someone. GET A JOB AND PAY THEM BACK. Trying to win it back is just a bad idea. I know you're not going to listen though. I thought I knew everything at 17 too.

I agree though with the above. If you really want to play poker, get a job and earn the money to pay the debt off and then get the money you earn after paying off your debt and put THAT towards your bankroll. You should never play with money you can't afford to lose. Pretend as if you're spending the money as you put it on your account. If you're not willing to lose your money, you shouldn't be playing, as you'll be playing a very weak game and contrary to what may make sense, not being willing to lose will put you in a very tough position to win.

In the menu of all poker siyes, somewhere there is a dropdown that says something about responsible gaming. Find it, read it, take it to heart.

A single positive note, gambling debts are not enforceable. Unless, of course, he is bigger than you or has a bigger gun.

Well technically it wasn't a gambling debt right? If you borrow money from your friend to use to gamble, the debt is from the borrowing, not the gambling. Also, always pay your debts. Firstly because it's the right thing to do and secondly because if you get a reputation of someone who can't be trusted to pay back money, no one will trust you on anything anymore.

Just continue grinding AT A REAL WOLRD JOB. At the level you are at BR wise (and the level I'm also at), you'll be making more money (like ten times) moping the toilets at McDonalds: poker, unless you live in Congo right now, should be a hobby, not something where you invest time and money in order to make money. And at 17 years old, you'll be better served padding out your resume with crappy jobs so that potential employers for future semi non-crappy jobs will know that you can take orders and a minimum of responsibilities.

Also, do not get staked under any circumstances unless you are in the black and have been for a long time. The reason for this is if you are required to pay the stake back if you lose it and you are a losing player, you'll get in debt so fast you wouldn't believe: plus, the person who stakes you is probably a friend and you don't want to have friends to who you "owe" 100-200 dollars, even if you're not required to pay it back. Learn before hand if you can be a winning player at the nanostakes and then move up when you have the BR to do so.

OP said he was staked, not that he borrowed money for his own use. Stakes usually have a "no win, no repay" clause. Perhaps this was not so, but it is what I was responding to.

Both of those only require you to be 18.

But aside from that, you(calibreeze) really made a classic beginner's mistake. NEVER try to double all of your bankroll at once. If you want to make a lot of money in poker, it starts with a LONG TIME.
Like everyone else said, the best way to get this money now is a job. the one thing a gambler doesn't want is debt.:)
