Tournaments do not have to be important nor do you have to win them. But you must have enough money in prize pools and come in a place consistent enough in order to make enough money in order to live and support your life style. like if 10th is 5k take a 3rd for 17k Id say that's good and have 4 1k buy ins and 6 2k buys that's 10k you would plus 12k in 10 days so monthly that's 36k if half are 2 day tourney that's still 24k. About 300k a yr.

If your primary source of income is derived from Poker and that is how you support yourself and your family, then you are a professional poker player. That is your profession on your Tax Form, etc..
Anything else you are a Recreational Player. You still may be a winning player, but it is not how you earn a living. Now if you have savings or a trust fund, which allows you to play poker everyday. You might be on your way to being a professional.
