I am looking into building a poker table. I was wondering which material would be the best choice for the playing surface. Any comment would be very helpful.

I've went into Jo-Ann's fabric store a few times and looked at the velveteen, it just doesn't look like it would work too well on with the cards. I've also looked at just basic felt, but it just looks rough.

Here's in idea: https://www.amazon.com/Suited-Cotton-Casino-Table-Speed/dp/B00DNH6IVC

My gf and I, in all seriousness, once made a perfectly nice bridge table from hardboard and ordinary felt. Might be worth trying a few different materials on prototype hardboard until you're happy.
I've thought about speed cloth as well, someone that host cash games around the area has a speed cloth table, it's not bad but i kinda want that nice soft feel to it. If you know what i mean, More of a casino quality material.

Gaming suede

Does anyone have any experience with gaming suede? Would it be a good playing surface for my poker table?

My recommendation is pool table cloth, its very durable and is generally available in most cities. Also comes in a range of colors.

I was, just going to post about pool table cloth.
Go to a place that has pool tables, and see how the cards move on it.

I have a few cheap poker sets that come with a square of felt (old Christmas gifts) and I didn't feel like the felt worked as well as it should have done
