Why do dealers always hit the chip when you tip them?

I always see them making a lot of noise. I like it, I just wanted to better understand the game I am trying to learn.

The noise is a sign of appreciation. Since they don't have a bell or something, the "click-click" is it.

You ever been to a bar where they have a bell they ring as they put each tip in an old spitoon? It's pretty cool. Same thing.

Thats really cool. I have always been a fan of little traditions like that. The dealers always seem to make a face when they do it to. Very entertaining anyways! Makes me tip more.

I thought it might be something for the cameras or something, letting everyone know that it was a tip and he wasn't raking the pot for himself.

I always thought they were required to tap their tips by law, to differentiate what is going into the rake box from their tip box.

Casino law or law of the land law.

Pretty cool either way...makes it exciting because a lot of tips mean a lot of good pots.
