So I'm going on a Carnival cruise at the end of June down toward mexico and they have a casino that has texas holdem. Just wondering if any of you have played on a cruise ship before and could tell me how the skill level is on average. I read phil gordons blue book and there was a section where he played a tournament on a cruise saying it was a donkfest.

Thanks

There are various threads about this already, one of the other things they have often mentioned is the extortionate rake.

Ya i posted about this on my blog, i have been on the Elation twice they have a PokerPro table. Donkfest to the max. $1/2 NLHE cash games. One day they had a $30 tournament and gave us 1k in starting chips with the blinds at 25/50 and 10 minute blinds. So skip the tournament imo. The cash game will be VERY swingy, you have the opportunity to make a lot of money but anyone could have anything.

i just read it. Good read. So probably the best way to play it just a TAG game and not bluff?

I would say definitely tight aggresive, and no bluffing whatsoever. Just play the cards like they are. But check the rake, sometimes those attractive cruises rake more than fair.

Absolutely. I think hands went to showdown at least 75% of the time. Just value bet all day long with made hands.
