Covering your mouth with hoodies

just think about this......

We are all used to the latest fad of having poker players cover their mouths with hoodies. My friend, who never watched a poker game in his life watched the latest Poker Masters series with me. He found it completely bizarre.


When you really think about it, it is. Your mouth does not give away any hints of a hand. Your eyes do, but the mouth does nothing unless you can't control your urge to smile.


When you really think about it, we in the poker community accept a lot of crazy shit as normal.


In baseball or tennis, if you bitch about a call or play you're penalized. In poker, if you bitch like a little girl you're Phil Hellmuth.

i think its about smiling lol, sometimes when i have aces i smile

Mouth can give a tell.People want to cover smile,some facial expression with the mouth,heavy breathing etc...i cover my mouth with hoodie even when i play online and im in coin flip all in situaion lol i dont know why guess it gives me some luck

I you have something stuck between a teeth, it may be a tell about what you had eaten.

Your mouth and that part of your face can give away a lot of tells.

But I say learn how to control them instead of covering them up. It is a sign of weakness to me and looks silly as hell.

I don't care for all that covering up. Mabey if youre getting a tell its because i'm giving myself one for a reason ;D

There are 26 muscles to smile and 62 to frown with that many movements on your face I am sure someone will pick up a tell or at least think they have by watching what emotion your mouth shows.

For me, it is very calming for some reason. It's possible it gives a false sense of security or protection. I even do it when I'm playing online

Just got my Cardschat hoodie for the upcoming Colossus with the "Team". It looks great, but I'm not sure it will taste so good. Before I played live at a casino for the first time, I worried that my ears turning red might be a tell...but for which kind of hand?...the nuts or a nothing hand? I decided not to wear sunglasses or a scarf to cover my Adam's apple. Believe me, the possible tells were the least of my problems...I am quite inexperienced compared to the average poker aficionado. Improving my game will probably do me a lot more good than covering any body parts that might give away my cards.

If it makes you feel better, play blindfolded. Personally I find hand movement the best tells.

they do it bc you can pick up tells by breathing patterns. it's not to hide their mouth it's more to hide their throat. some ppl can't help to gulp when hitting the nuts or bluffing. on a recent pokernight in america phil helmuth said he knew a guy was bluffing bc he saw him gulp

It's not just your eyes that give tells , people have sudden twitches or their lips quiver. Your whole entire face is a Tell Tell Story.

i am horrible at live poker 0 confidence not confident with counting chips or anything etc but online i can relax weird but oh well..

I hate when people do that. And hate when they wear them too. Just like I hate when people wear sunglasses. Dumb!
