Which countries have best online players?

Curious to what everyone thinks - i've just played 45 player SnG on pokerstars. 7 from UK, rest mostly US (a couple of European and Canadians). Top 4 were all British (I came 4th). This seems to be a recurring theme - anyone else spot the same? (we'll soon see whether i'm right when challenge kicks off!).

Your sample size isn't neraly large enough to draw any kind of conclusion (1). Also, the tournament is either one of the $1.20 or $6.50 turbos I'm assuming. The best players at online sites don't play these low limit, high variance tournaments.

There are great players from all over the world. I would guess that there are more from the US simply because of the # of US players is higher than that of other countries (on most sites), so therefore there would be more "great" players. This question really cannot be answered with any sort of accuracy though. There are too many variables, etc.

Most of the top European players are from Scandanavian countries. I have lost count of the number of very good players I have seen from sweden

The US speaks for itself purely for the volume of players but there are definitely some very good players from UK, particularly from ireland

I did mean to imply Northern as well as Southern, so didnt bother mentioning the fact Republic was a "foreign" country!

Going by wsop Main event Champions, It looks like USA has the edge with 28 championships out of the last 36. Thank you Texas. Hmm, looks like China is twice as good as either Ireland or Great Britain.

All I was saying is that I play on a site where Americans are banned, thats not the reason I choose to play there but it does mean the site isnt congested and if it means its fast play and more money can be made, all the better!

Ok lets look at this realistically.......

USA pop 300m winners = 28 1 winner per 10.71million
China pop 1300m winners = 2 1 winner per 650 million
GB pop 60 m winners = 1 1 winner per 60 million
Ireland Pop 3m winners = 1 1 winner per 3 million

So basically an amerian player is 6 times better than a british player

An irish player is 3 times better than an American player

And the Chineese suck at poker !!!

Also lets not forget the amount of American kids who just learning how to play since it was on ESPN

Let's hope the US/UK/ROTW challenge, which has not been forgotten, will allow us to answer this question. At least as far as our forum anyway...

In the local games here it is the asians. Online the USA has a lot of quality players but they also haqve alot of crappy players. THe crappy players are my favorite.

Colin, how pig ignorant of you. I thought you were of above average intelligence. Obviously not.
I first thought you were from one of the Scandinavian Countries, until I looked to see that you hailed from London, RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO US.Are you for real mate. But really it comes as no suprise as ye British always take glory and ownership of things that do not belong to ye... ..

Not a problem...I know how frustrating it can be, believe me

just my two cents...on average, ive found scandinavians to be tough to beat, but certainly not impossible.

Man, you've somehow managed to alienate the Americans and the Irish. If this poker thing doesn't work out, you may have a future in politics.

Do people in different countries play differently? Do the Brits raise more often than the Irish? Do the Chinese always fold on the river? Are the Americans always check raised by the Canadians? Inquiring minds want to know....

The question is, on-line, how do you know who is who. It's hard enough trying to put a player on any particular style without trying to figure out what country they're from and then determining whether or not there's a pattern.

Basically you should be ok, just be aware that if your being out played, your probably up against an irishman.
