Could millennials save online poker?
I heard it this morning on NPR (public radio in the US). Vegas casinos
are worried because millennials--people born after 1980--prefer videogames over slot machines. The report went on to say that millennials prefer online gaming and games of skill to gambling (they want some control over the outcomes of the game) and want a social interaction component in their games.
To me, this is a perfect recipe for online poker (and poker forums
!). It provides the perfect combination of what is attractive to this generation. If the PPA (Poker Players Alliance) could make a case for this aspect it could be an incentive for casinos to stop fighting online poker and instead to embrace it. Keep the slot machines for the over 45 crowd and join into online gambling ventures to increase the revenues from the under 35 crowd.
What do you think?
