For those who don't know, Tom McEvoy (former wsop ME Champ) has a friend here on CardsChat and she was able to arrange for Tom to play against us awhile back. He even posted a few times in the forums.

Well, he took down the inaugural WSOP Champions Invitational last night, beating out Robert Varkonyi heads up. In addition to the Binion Cup, he also won a 1970 Corvette Stingray.

Congrats to Tom!

Heh... I remember someone saying that he was washed up and hadn't won anything in a long time... Good to see him take one down.

Well I hope I won't get into trouble for saying this, I'm very happy that he won it, but I'd still prefer see her back at the forum than him :p

McEvoy Champ of Champs

FYI

Tom McEvoy Is World Series of Poker’s Champion of Champions

Published: June 2, 2009
LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) — Tom McEvoy has been crowned the champion of champions at the world series of poker after beating previous main-event winners in a special tournament.
McEvoy won the title early Tuesday after a two-day tournament that started with 20 former winners of poker’s richest event. The field included Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan and the 11-time gold-bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth.
McEvoy won the no-limit Texas Hold ’Em main event in 1983, earning $540,000. He has won four tournaments at the series, most recently in 1992 at a limit Omaha tournament.
McEvoy did not win a gold bracelet for the event, which was created for the series’ 40th anniversary. He took home a restored 1970 Chevrolet Corvette worth $50,000 and the Binion Cup, named for the series’ founders.

Repeat thread I believe.

I would have to ask if this is going to be one of the few televised WSOP ESPN events?
