I've wondered something about people who take their time on basically every hand preflop for a long time now: Just what the heck do they even think they're accomplishing? What advantage do they believe they're getting? I mean, if we're near a bubble but not hand for hand or something then yeah, pulling something like that every few hands, sure. But I see people do that THROUGHOUT a tournament. What is going through their heads that would lead them to believe this is a thing to do? Especially when we ARE hand for hand and it not only accomplishes nothing but puts them in more danger since the blinds raise with fewer hands played.

Are you talking live or online? I've found online the players that do this are often playing other tables at the same time or involved in some other distraction.

If they seem to have some sense of what they are doing, when they do play, the above is usually the reason.

It happens all the time around the bubble in almost every tournament.

I think sometimes they are just preoccupied with something else. Maybe a game on tv.

Most are multi-tabling... some take the same amount of time for any decision to disguise, some do it to irritate/tilt ya.

absoultely Cent % true.. some do it intentionaly to irritate others at the table.. i know a Group of Players does it from Level 1 till end in every sattie they Play.. and as in satties starting stack is 1500 , they r in push fold button most of the time cos blinds go up so quick. but dont be fool by that , cos those Players are really good Players who are very gd at poker and win huge sattie tix ,, they told me that they do it just to irritate others and to let others ko each other out in Frustration.

I agree with others sentiment online players are probably involved in other things around the house etc , essentially afking till they hear the 5 second warning beep before they rush back to see if they have aces . At the live tables , I think a lot of newer players just like to hollywood because thats what they see on ESPN a lot of the time, with people in big spots taking their time with any hand .

I think that depends, some people do it all the time because that's the way they play, no matter if they play online or live.
Other people do it only when they are close to the bubble in order tu buy time if they are short of chips , I guess.

A lot of online players play more than one table at a time and are also surrounded by distractions while playing at home.

A lot of players have pre-registered and perhaps not made it back online in time for the start.

Always full of such players whose actions defy any logic. With this you just need to accept and use against them.

Seems like it's this way in the majority of MTT's these days - especially around the pay bubble or even another pay-range bubble for that matter.

Lot of reasons like people say above; but to answer - is this intentional?

I certainly think that some individuals believe it helps them to play slower at some points so they "limp" there way into the money. Probably a simple theory for them, being, if you someone that has less chips then you pays more ante's and blinds, they'll run out of chips quicker.

I guess that's a sound theory if you are playing to fold?! :)

I am so guilty of this. I'm usually multi-tabling and watching the games and I do get behind sometimes. And when Its close to end late registration and close to the bubble I may take my time. Just thinking less hands to play so nothing crazy happens. Most of the time I'm just doing too much at once. I'm working on that.

Many people have shitty internet connection and that is why they take so long. I recently changed my internet supplier, but I had serious connection problems before.
