While the vast majority of poker players wound not stoop to cheat or collude, when money comes into play, some people would do anything to make a few dollars. Although the online operator records all hands played, it is not easy to detect three players in contact with each other, sitting in the same game, passing information to each other, Worst case sitting in the same room discussing their hands. At a six seated table they can control half the hands, and at a nine, one third of them.

You know what, thats the chance we take playing online poker. I have caught a couple of guys cheating one time in a tourney and reported it during the game. PS removed the cash out and we all got moved up. If you are paying attention, you will see differences in the game indicating something might be up.

This type of cheating can not only happen online. Live tourney's, cash tables, heck even home games have had this happen in them. So play well, play safe, play cautious, and by all means "Play Responsibly "

I was in a cardschat freeroll where the password was shared. Then I saw almost ten players from China with the names like Chin.li0001, Chin.li0002, Chin.li0003, etc. It was pretty obvious it was a cheat. This was reported to PS, but I don't know what happened after that. But if you have access to multiple IPs you can do that being smarter, with names that don't show so clearly the cheat.
But I saw once two players from Russia talking on the chat and then shoving against each other with air. Always with the short stack winning and getting the blinds. But is very difficult to prove it.

Two of my friends got caught on Stars - first they got sent a letter, asking for an explanation of the relationship status with each other, then some hand history explanation, and then they got barred for life. So the software is quite well made for tracking collisions, I guess.

Collusion does seem to be a problem with SNGs. I'm sure some get by the site. The best way around it, unfortuneatly is to play MTTs, far less of a chance of any players colluding. I always liked SNGs for the skill and time period, and would play them despite what I said, but they don't play very often on ACR.

It is possible, but not something I consider a large risk factor.

It happens, and I'm sure I've been cheated at least a bit, but I keep playing.

Cheating will always be there. If they stop one way another way will be figured out. Just got to be careful and hopefully your on a site that puts more eyes toward there security program or even cares about that. To catch it for u

Overall:

If you know people are colluding, exploit them, its like a tell... You know they are going to trap you, so retrap them, call in spots youd raise... let them dump to you.

I think the software these days especially at the bigger stars is more than capable of dealing with this. As you have said, it can be very hard to detect initially however once patterns start emerging of players sitting at tables, passing money around the tables etc it can be picked up very quickly. Some people just need that Edge! Never gets them anywhere though.

Cheating and collusion will always be a problem for poker , either it is online or it is live .
On a live poker cash game two or more people can collude against you and take all your money .
So it can happen online , for ure on a cash game , on a site with low security measures and protection .
I saw in a internet cafe 4-5 young ones doing this many years ago ,they were playing together watching everyone each other's card , some of them are caught some no .
You have to be very cautious and report anything strange you see happening to the ones responsible .

I don't even explain how I do it, but I can only guess I'm very watchful.

Even 2 players at the table who don't talk to each other, i'll recognize the relationship there and needle em in a subtle way that won't even let them know that I know and use it against them.

Heres something interesting ive readup quite sometime ago.

Natural instinct when you catch someone cheating stealing chips etc is to report it in!

So lets say the cheat is a losing player and he steals some chips... Okay we report him and he gets up and leaves and gets replaced by a shark or a decent reg. Is this best case scenario? It doesn't appear so.

Lets say we don't report him and we know we have a good chance to take the money from him even after his advantage?

Us as players need to use the information/situations to our full best.... Anyways that above is just food for thought.

cheating?

If you even begin to think that there is collusion at your table: cash game, just cash out. Tourney, once you know the villains, try to use it against them.

I really worry about collusion especially at open tables. It's way to easy to sit down at the same table with a friend in a six handed game. This one of the main reason I currently quit playing cash games. It's also just more fun to play tournaments.

with today's technology it is all too easy. Not long ago on Full Flush, I had 4 people in a 9 handed table openly talking about how they were chatting in an IM. I would imagine the allure and temptation is very strong among the shady players. Impossible to detect, they can just use their damn iphone/texts. Best advice, look for patterns and suspicious plays, things that don't make sense. e.g. Being squeezed in the middle of raising andreraising then one player folds when they are extremely pot committed or the pot odds make no sense to fold..etc...

Collusion is always a tough one to catch. I've seen people raise a huge amount and get called only to then fold to a min bet with the next card. It looks suspicious, especially when you see it happening over and over. You see partners shipping chips to each other or soft playing their friends. Most of the time they'll get away with it when it's considered just bad playing by support.

Poker is a component of a life! Lies and deception for earning easy money will always be! In such a case for how the table is not winning, just walk away from the table! Find another place where there are players with a small stack!

i always worry about cheats lol this is a paranoid thing with a lot of people when it comes to money.. I personally think the poker sites let people hit hands so the traffic continues to flow to there room.. the only way figure how people going all in with 82o and flopping amazing hands lol

Its sad but it happens all the time, i think more in live games where you can use tricks other than words to get the other players atetion, on line I think would be harder.
