I just wanted to hear some opinions regarding online poker etiquette. To be honest, I swear like Calamity Jane on Deadwood around my own house, but tend to be really polite in public, including online. A little ribbing or trash talk doesn't bug me in the least, and generally when folks spell their profanity correctly, the filters will catch it and asterik it out for you. But what about those who misspell their swearing on purpose to circumvent the filters...and then keep on heckling and harassing players even after leaving the table? Personally, I think that sort of player reflects poorly on the site itself if they are allowed to continue that behavior with impunity. What do you think?

If I get a real butthead going on and on and on, I just click the chat "OFF" and continue on. No real biggie for me. I do wonder sometimes how long the idiot keeps typing away, cussing up a storm and doesn't realize that he's just talking to himself. ;)

I love winding people up at the table, if I can get someone on tilt to give me more money then fantastic.

I don't swear or berrate players though, I just tend to needle the guys who are moaning and bitching at other for sucking out on them. Its a fine line though, take it too far then they leave the table and take their easy money with them.

i dont think theres any need to put people even more on tilt. I just sit there and play better poker. Berating people and putting people on higher tilt makes them reckless. This sometimes causes bad beats for me. I dont need to add thorns, I'm just a better player.

The game of Poker presents an interesting paradox. It has long been valued to be able to conduct yourself like a gentleman (or lady) at the table. But the very nature of the game is sheer warfare, with chips as bullets. Your focus must be on gutting everyone at the table if given the chance, with no apologies required or requested. As Doyle Brunson writes in "Super System", he sits down at every poker table with the intention of absolutely destroying it. But you'll not find a more graceful cardshark.

So, if you have the ability to say, "Please", "Thank you", and "Nice hand" with a smile on your face, even as you prepare to thrust your dagger deep into your opponent's entrails, you shoud be a pretty good poker player. Civility is for bridge. Good manners served with bad intentions are for the righteous poker table.

My Poker Etiquette/Civility

I don't mind doing a little talking, ribbing of people and I do sometimes comment on bad beats others have. The only times I do something that some people would consider rude would be when someone goes all-in with a baby ace, or some other garabe hand versus my high pocket pair/AK etc. and gets lucky. I do say to anyone who does it something to the effect of, "Keep playing like that and see how far you get;)". If that makes me a sore loser/poor sport then so be it because I really don't care.

Poker Player 100, your posts hurt my head. You don't capitalize, except when it isn't required, your punctuation is all but nonexistient except for places where it doesn't fit, your grammar and spelling are absolutely horrid, and you generally post nonsense. Please, for everyone's sake, try to make a clear and coherent thought and write in in a manner that others can comprehend. Take the time to spell check it and punctuate your sentences. You are really luck that the folks here are super-nice, I am a member on some forums that would have already banned you or flamed you to hell and back for your posts thus far.

Leave the little guy alone! He's still in junior high! :) Since he's not of legal gambling age I think we should think about voting him the site's resident cheerleader/mascot! OH I know we can give him a job! PP100 you now are the official welcome party. When ever a newbie posts hello it is your job to properly welcome them! Whatcha say?

I always try to be a gentlemen when I am at a table, whether live or online. I concentrate on my game, not on how mad I can make the other guy. That's how I play well.

When it comes to professionals, I can't stand Tony G or Phil Hellmuth (even though I have his book). Tony G tries to rile people up, while Hellmuth throws temper tantrums for half an hour after he loses a hand. He isn't a gracious loser either (especially when a non-pro knocks him out).

My name at UB is bubbasbest. I love it when people call me a fag when I win a really good hand or if they got a bad beat. Like thats really gonna hurt me. They get very off center when I come back at them that I'm a girl.
