I have heard that nicotine in cigarettes stimulates brain activity if it is true that means cigarettes will help with poker and also calms the nerves.

I do not smoke, because it is very bad for the health, and I do not like to be affected by anything. I want to be me in the game. It is the right way!!

Wow cigarettes affect memory? That's a first one for me, never had a problem with memory, cigarettes help me while i play Poker, it makes me calm enough to play in harmony. We all know it's bad for health and all that, don't see the need to talk about it over and over again.

I'd say most poker players smoke. It's a way to handle stress. I would suggest however that you switch to a vape since they're cheaper and you're taking in a lot less bad chemicals, it's basically just vegetable juice and nicotine. Make sure you look into a good setup though first instead of one of those flimsy cigarette looking ones because you can make it change how much of a throat hit you're getting which is half of what smoking is about lol.

This is excellent and an example of how it should be. I would stop smoking and I would feel much more cheerful.:playingba

the only thing that helps cigarette is to end their health, has no influence on anything in the game of poker.

I really feel a lot of bothering cigarettes and plus when playing poker and somebody next to me smokes. It's really terrible and unacceptable. And I do not think they affect the player's psyche well and you do not need to consume them. This is my suggestion. It's better to find some other healthier occupation instead of smoking a cigarette.

I am a smoker in the game does not affect me or help me, but as for health I think that if I noticed that when I play more smoke, it will be because of anxiety but it is like that

Like you've said, you're addicted to cigarettes, period. Everything else will be affected, like every addiction. Remember, first it will affect your health, second it will take money from your wallet.

During the game of poker players often have to make difficult decisions and” walk on the edge", so that the nerves of many poker players often reach the limit. But all smokers know that cigarette perfectly relieves stress. Therefore, many will prefer to take a break after losing a large Bank in order to smoke, after which the player can safely return to the table as if nothing had happened. With the same success nicotine helps to fight tilt.

I have never smoked. I drink alcohol very rarely. It is obvious that smoking harms the health and badly affects the game. There is no doubt that sport has a better effect on the game than smoking.

Thisis from the perspective of a non-tobacco smoker. I was on a cruise a few years ago (ffs over 10 years now - boy does time fly). I knew the room allowed smoking and it hadn't been a problem cause it wasn't in my face the first couple days of cash games.

But was unlucky and after a $100+ buyin tourney I sat next to a chain smoker that I would have been happy to dump a pail of water on while he lit his 5th cigarette in a row. All he did was suck in smoke and blow it out on to the table and it kept settling on me. He did not respond to my request to blow elsewhere. My eyes were burning and I (someone that has smoked in the past and been in plenty of rooms that smoking was allowed without issue) lost any interest in continuing the game shoved with crap hands and thankfully left the game. Generally I will not play if smoking is allowed now, unless I know the room has good ventilation.

Again I have no problem with people that smoke but a person that sucks and blows out smoke going through a cigarette every 7-8 minutes is abusive IMO. So unless I am allowed to hold a fan in front of me and blow the smoke back at the person -
F- it btw never had that problem in AC, Foxwoods, Mohegun sun or Whatever casino I played in Lake Tahoe

hello :)

does cigarettes affect on a poker player game????

im addicted and i feel it doesnt help me play well, as i feel the smoke in my head turning

does cigarettes affect poker playing???

Good question.

I would like to contribute a quite rational explanation.

Caffeine, cigarettes, drugs etc mimic neurotransmitter such as Serotonin.

They definitely have the power to change your behaviour - inner and / or outer - to some degree.

They can make you feel energized (caffeine) or calm (cigarettes).

The problem is that your body accustomes to the external source of neurotransmitters and hence lowers the normal supply / production of neurotransmitters.

Why should I produce Serotonin - which costs energy - when I get I via cigarettes. That´s basically what the body probably thinks.

When you smoke too often your body might reacts strange when facing a situation without cigarettes. Therefore a situation in which you have no cigarettes - e.g. during a poker game - might alter the way you play. As professional poker players live off stable emotional capabilities due to variance, you might get bank roll problems over the long term perspective.

Hope I could provide some thoughts.

Greets.

I'm not trying to derail the thread but you're a bit off.

Cigarettes work on the nicotinic receptors, which aren't necessarily influencing serotonin.

Caffeine works on adenosine receptors, this isn't serotonin.

There are almost no recreational drugs that rely on serotonin as their primary mechanism of action outside of MDMA.

You can make your point about your body creating less of something as you substitute it artificially about anything; consider type 2 diabetes and obesity.

..............

Whilst obviously cigarettes are a substantial negative health impact, nicotine has been shown to enhance short-term cognitive performance. When it comes to poker, I assume this would be marginal at best.

If you are going to quit smoking I would probably also recommend quitting poker for the first week as well. The tilt will be unreal.
