Hi,

My friends and I are fairly new to poker. We have just recently started playing on the weekends after being inspired by Full House Poker, an Xbox Live game. We each had our own sets of chips, so when we played we had a variety of different types of chips. After a couple of weekends we decided to invest in a better set. This is what we decided on.

Based off of what we have, I was hoping someone could help us figure out what our initial chip count should be, what our blinds should start out as, how often they increase, etc. We usually play with about ten people.

Any information that you share would be appreciated because, as I said before, we are new to the game.

Thanks,

Jesse

If you're setting up a tournament, Howard Lederer did some good "lesson" videos that you can find on youtube.

If you can stand the sound of the weasel's voice, he gives decent guidelines for stack size as well as antes, blinds, time between levels, etc.

Hi Jesse,

We play a few home tourneys and typically start with $3000 in chips, blinds as follows:

$25/50
$50/100
$ 75/150
$100/200
$150/300 etc etc

We either increase blind levels at 30 minute intervals or every 20 if we want to speed it up and get 2 tourneys in one night.

Typical starting chips is 3 denominations, $25's (8 of), $ 100 (8 of )and $ 500 (4 of)

As the tournament progresses, we end up swapping the $25's and $100's and introduce a $1000 chip. Just makes it a bit less messy.

Hope this helps.
