I have a story to tell about cheating in a live game but I thought I would ask a few questions and hopefully get some feed back before I write it. I don't want anyone to feel like a resposnse is not needed or wanted. My last post has been read over135 times without one person saying anything in response so I want to see if I can't generate some discussion on the topic first. I have spent thousands of hours at the tables in live games so I have been exposed to a lot of poker and people over the years and I have seen both at their best and worst. Cheating in poker is as old as poker but cheating in a modern poker room is unheard of, isn't it? Is it even possible? Have any of you ever seen or heard of someone cheating. Have you actually been in a game where someone cheated. Did the cheater get get caught? One way or another you can easily respond to this post, even if it's just a yes or no answer to one of these questions. I look forward to hearing from you and later today or tomorrow I will write my story and post it on this thread so please check back and read it. Thanks... CaliCounts..

Yes, it is possible to cheat in casinos. Online, I don't not if is it possible to cheat on the most secured sites, but in live casinos I'm sure it is possible. In Romania, our football national team's coach, Victor Piturca cheated few years ago in a casino. He hid a camera in a pack of cigarettes in order to see the dealer's cards. He was catched and kicked out from the casino because of cheating.

I think its possible. The only thing I have run into was a ***** next to kept trying to sneak a peek at my cards, but that's about it.

I have encountered soft play on a regular basis. And, I have suspected some have on occasion by signaling to the other to get out of their way. But, because of only suspicion and no solid proof, I've been able to say nothing to the floor.

And, ChipsOwnerRO, cheating online would be much easer than live!

Never stopped Men "The Master". Live table multi-accounting tournaments using horses to chip dump to him. He's even been accused of paying players to enter smaller events, remove chips from play, then physically give them to Men so he can just add them to his stack. He's been accused of a lot of different techniques.

Don't think I've personally played in live games where there's been cheating going on (though it's not always easy to tell), but there's all kinds of cheating and you can bet that some of it still goes on even in modern casinos.

Player collusion is the most obvious example. As is chip dumping or replacement in tournaments. Hell, there was a major tournament that got shut down for that not long ago after they found a heap of tournament chips in someone's room.

Card marking is something that can happen too. Casinos are pretty good at spotting it and changing the decks out, but that doesn't stop people from trying from time to time. There was an example of this apparently from the $50K HORSE tournament at the wsop not too many years ago.

And that's before we even get into bar leagues or home games where security is basically non-existent.

Long story short, if you're playing in a casino then you're probably as safe as you can reasonably expect to be. But it still pays to be informed and alert.

Well, I'm pretty sure Ivey ripped off a casino for a lot of money, so it must mean that is possible. As you asked for one word answer, I say yes.

Oh dear - that was baccarat / punto banco, not poker, and the jury's still out (literally) on whether or not what he did was actually "cheating" or not.

thanks for the effort.

I want to say thanks for responding and tell you that I sat at a table where it happened and it wasn't a group conspiracy, it was one smart, ballsy guy. I will post the whole story in two parts today. I have written it 3 time and it's kind of long.. All three times I hit my back key just before finishing and lost the whole story. So part one and two is what it will be. One question, is there a way to auto save as you go?

A local club around my area just had a big cheating scandal. Dealers who would rotate every 30 min, would come back with a deck set up for hands and would fake shuffle to his friends.

Of course these are underground games, but collusion and soft play and signaling exists in live play in casinos.

I come from Dawson City Yukon home of the 1800's gold rush and there is no cheating at Diamond Gerties casino but you are still allowed to bring your gun in.
Just kidding.
But with google +, MSN messager, and cell phones I am much more concerned with online cheating than with live cheating.
I only play micro stakes though so if someone wants to cheat me out of my two bucks I won't get too upset.

If you're writing a really long post, try doing it in notepad first. You can save as you go, then copy/paste into here. Just need to take wordwrap off first. I've had weird things happen if that's still on.

That whole deal with Ivey's people is tricky. Did they do anything outright illegal? Doesn't seem like it, they simply asked for provisions the casino was willing to provide. However, they also were asking for those changes to be made specifically so they could basically use a marked deck.

I don't see a casino letting this go without a huge fight though.

I've been playing some tournaments live. Luckily it wasn't a huge buy-in, But i've caught the dealer cheating several times - Helping one of the players at the table. After i saw this i was thinking what he exactly was doing. I told this to him and he kinda quited doing it. Before that, i wasn't playing any cards until i saw he was doing legit deals. Even if i had a monsterhand, i wasn't playing it. I remember i got AQ suited. I didn't play it because i knew it might be a set up hand.

Without help of dealer it is impossible to cheat in poker, cards are on the table the whole time and you cant influence on them. Dealer on the other hand can if he is capable deal you cards he wants...although that is very unlikely too, dealers knows that there are cameras in casinos

Sorry, but it's just naive to believe that's true. Collusion between players is the most obvious example whereby players can cheat without the dealer being involved. There's also card marking, sneaking chips onto the table...

Dead on! Soft play. Squeezing players. Signaling holdings.

One of the main reasons a lot cardrooms won't let players have their phones in there hands or on the tables if they are in a hand.

I have seen cheating a couple of times, once a lad simply had cards under the table an was caught very quick, thrown out the pub and never allowed back. Second time was in a cash game when everyone was drunk, I seen a lad who was the dealer, he had pushed all in and was swapping his cards with the burn cards to try make a made hand. I caught him out told the owner and he was told to leave, allowed him his buy in back it was only a 20+ pound pot but it's the principle. Cheating is awful

I caught a guy base dealing in a home game. He left the bottom card hanging 1/2 way out. I have also sat with table talkers, soft players, card switching partners, and once with 2 guys who were whip sawing (I'M not sure how they communicated - chip placement??). And ALL of these were in either home games, or back room cash games. I recommend everyone plays live do some reading on how to cheat at cards. It will save you money.

Yeah, casinos and serious card rooms don't just use cutting cards because they like to add one more step to the shuffling process, they actually serve a purpose.

If you're playing in any game where the dealer isn't using a cutting card on the bottom of the deck, it's best to start asking some serious questions

There are actually two types of live game: live game in a real casino and a live game online. So if you are asking if it is possible cheating in an online live game, then I doubt it. But if you are asking if it is possible cheating in a live casino game then I think it is possible though securities are everywhere, besides only desperate cheats.

"live game online"? as opposed to what other online game?

Really. This is new to me.

Generally I have only heard poker classed as:
Live = in person
Online = in underwear at home :D

This is the first I have heard of "live game online".
