Has anyone play in a high stakes table and got a big pot going and someone disconnects their computer because they were on a draw and didnt hit it and their money contributed to the pot gets given back to them, thats why there should be no disconnect protect on and pokertables so that people cannot cheat others out of money. this is another disadvantage to online poker

Actually an interesting querry. Different sites have varying policies on disconnections. Some sites allow disconnection allins, some don't, and some allow them in tourney's and not in ring games. It is online remember so I do believe a site does have to allow them. Probably the best way is to allow a player a certain number of all in protections and after that their hand is folded. Email support and if support feels it was legit deal give the player back one of his all in protections. Just an idea though. btw I think this is the basic way Noble handles disconnections

poker stars has all-in protection in cash games and maybe some of the bigger buy-in tournies. THat means if you get disconnected but already ahve money in the pot, your hand is treated as all-in and the other players continue betting, etc.

I hate all in protection in no-limit games!. I've been cheated so many times. In fixed, it's not as big of a deal.

If you feel the other guy did it on purpose report them to the site.

They will monitor it and if they are deemed to be cheating they will get banned.

If they do that though, they will only get their money back if they won the hand, if you still won then you get the money they put into the pot at that point.

I think grumble makes a good point. If you report the certain person and they monitor the persons playing behavior and if they see this keeps happening they will take care of the problem. I've been in a monster hand once with pocket ace's and an ace on the board and right in the middle of betting half my stack my internet serivce disconected ( I live too far out for cable or dsl ). When I got back I had the same ammount I had when I had left and no one would freakin explain to me what happened!! lol Anyways yeah and JUMBALIA, not all but most sites have some kind of buddy system and you can check to see if the person got disconnected or left the table. I think there is a difference between them shutting down the site and leaving the table tho. Anyways goodluck with the mess I hope you get it figured out.

yeah jumbalia...its sux...but watch out for other forms of cheating like:

posse the table...when a group of friends hop in a sit'n'go and control the table...they are usually on the phone or in rare case networked in the same room

chip dumping...when ur on a table with a friend and you go all in together...usually will happen early in a tourney or sit'n'go if they can hook the same table early

if a person has the capabilties they can do this on their own with networking

some ppl just dont know how to win unless they cheat....

funnily enough someone did this too me on tuesday

I reported him to the site in question and are monitoring his account now

I put in a bet on a scary board and he had paired the bottom card on the flop, it was just us two in the pot. He was on the small blind and I raised him preflop from the big blind. Still hopefully that will stop them doing it. Cheated me out of $10

There will always be people who try to cheat we just have to hope to the poker rooms care enough to have a department with the resources to stop it. I know Party is pretty serious about stopping cheaters

Interesting enough, I've seen in the past where a couple sites have claimed that they can tell if the disconnect was intentional or not. I don't know how they do it, but hey if it really works all the better.

Also, I remember a site (if I come up with the name, I'll post it later) that had an interesting policy. They said they could tell if the disconnect was their fault or not. If you were disconnected and it was their fault, then you were protected. However, if you were disconnected and it wasn't their fault, then too bad, so sad.

On the subject of online cheating, the one scenario that worries me the most is the most obvious: phone collusion. A band of cheats sits in at a high stakes ring game and converses together about their hands outright over a speaker phone via conference call. In a casino, they would do the same thing with signs and signals. Online, it's a lot easier. If they were smart enough to avoid congregating at the same table on the same site too often, they could migrate from site to site indefinitely, and make a killing along the way. I have a hard time believing that most poker room supervisors would pick up on their betting patterns, which would be the only clue to the teamwork.

Call me paranoid, but this is why I prefer tournaments to ring games online. Random tourney seating and constant re-balancing of the tables makes it impossible for anyone to practice collusion, except by the blind chance they end up at the same table together. I never play online ring games for more than $1/$2 blinds.

Kahnawake Gaming Commission

On-line poker is not totally unregulated. All these sites, Full Tilt, Poker Stars, Empire, etc. are permitted by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. They have no punative authority, but there name does mean something. If a site wants to be sanctioned by KGC they must provide extensive information to the Commission, pay a $25,000 application fee and $10,000 per year there after to renew. The KGC then monitors that site and is vigilant in protecting it's own reputation. If you don't see their hyper linked web address at the bottom of their web site. DO NOT PLAY!
