Evening,

Does anybody use the chat to wind up players? I think its a great tool.

When a player starts mouthing off about something, usually a "bad beat" or the "site being rigged" its a great time to get in a few cheap digs to irritate them. I find it usually results in them getting into more pots with me when I raise pre flop. I have also experienced greater bluff and bluff showing frequency.

Anybody do the same?

As an aside its worth mentioning I only play 2 or 3 tables at once. So big multitablers need not apply.

Def a good idea, everyone playing online is a moron & even after years of playing & ountless hands they fall for this everytime. Much easier than say, learning to play solid poker. ;)
Or:
This works on newbies & drunks, whom you ought to be able to beat anyway.
My best guess, this is mostly utilized by those who get their pleasure from the suffering of others, as long as they can do so without risk.
Your penis is whatever size it is, come to terms with it, learn to play poker, win some money, meet some folks & have a good time. It will be spring soon enough & you can go back to pulling the wings off butterflies.
Good luck at the tables. ;)

Yes it is an effective tactic. Not one that I care to utilize very often. Not that comments don't frequently pop into my head. I'll often bang them into the chat box, then backspace over them. It's just not my style. And I prefer not to have the distraction of having to keep up my end of the banter.

Good against emotional players who tilt but I don't do this anyway because when I get into wars with people online over pots I get distracted and my emotions start getting in the way. Therefore I just stay silent mostly.

Not really a great way tbh. You then get distracted; thus missing action/reads.

As for winding them up, not replying winds them up more or a simple ":)" as opposed to giving them "digs and wasting your valuable time when you should be concentrating on getting more chips.

I'm sure it's effective, but it's not in personality to initiate it. When people start this with me, I just sarcastically agree with them and blow them kisses. I then get the last word and say I'm closing the chat. It seems to tilt them having the opposite effect of what they intended. I can then concentrate on the game.
