I play at Inter Poker on the Boss Network and about a week ago I was talking to a player from Leeds and we decided we would like to play in a couple of tourneys on Inter Poker together, they have got rid of the "find friend" button So I gave this guy my email address so he could email me when he was going to play.
I was playing yesterday and a guy I know joined the table so I said "hi" only to get the following message in big red letters " chat permannantly disabled"
I was puzzled as I do not rant and rave about bad results or bad mouth other players.
I emailed Inter and they wrote back that it was for giving my email out in chat????
What the hell is wrong with that?
They kindly told me they wouldnt reinstate my chat at the present time but I could re-apply in Oct?
I told them not to bother and to close my account. I just can't understand what I could possibly be doing wrong, not as if we were going to collude, we'd find a better way than that.
Has anyone else come across this rule on other sites?

Sounds like a stupid reason to chat ban you. Never heard of it before.

It is probably considered to along the same lines as asking for IM in chat.

Wow that is a pretty intense policy for banning chat. I know on the merge network people say whatever they want, they talk about hands, they insult people, and no one ever gets chat banned. That sounds a lot worse than giving out your email. Unlucky man.

It's actually unlucky for them. I have found a site on the same network that offers me a better RB deal and I played a lot on Inter Poker so they made good money out of me, but not any more :D

If you are a winning player how did they make money from you?

Rake Blue, rake.
Yes, but if he is winning the site can't gain anything. If I left pokerstars today it would be no different for them, the rake I pay has come from other players, if I hadn't played them somebody else would've took that money and used it for more tourney entries, what do winning low/micro stakes players provide the sites?

The more players, the more rake paid. If you don't pay rake, someone else will, ya but if you play, the other person will play someone else so you both end up paying and the site profits from both.

I think they are more worried about someone giving out their email then being sent a virus or keylogger and having their account information stolen and possibly losing the money on their poker account

just my 2 cents as to why they might take a hard stance on not allowing players to give out their email

nah they're (rightfully so, I think) worried about collusion.

Losing players don't make the site any more money than winning players do. It's all about volume and rake... unless of course the site is just stealing deposits and using it for things other than it's supposed to be. But no major site would ever dream of doing THAT. ;)

To Colbefc, it may seem a harsh policy but it does make some sense from the lens of anti-collusion. It's something worth noting and being careful of in the future, as other poker sites may have similar rules.

some flawed thinking here. you might be correct under the assumption that there is a finite amount of deposits per player and that they only care about their eventually realised rake rather than their hourly rake.

I just dont understand the collusion part, if I was intent on colluding the last thing I would do is draw attention to myself by giving my email in the chat box, but maybe they are being ultra cautious.
I wasnt a high stakes player there but my rake would be between 300-500 a month, if they got that of every player they would be doing ok.

The Boss Network has some weird procedures, for example, can not open more than three accounts in the network, even that of a personal computer, but if you open an account from another computer with different IP, it's OK for them. .. :D

Seems pretty harsh but I guess they thought you might be colluding with your friend or friends. Best way to deal with a site that treats you like is to withdraw your bankroll and close your account which you have done. If they treat you bad take your buisness elsewhere.

yup email may be a signal for them looking for spamming too.....I find the rule very harsh but it is their chat box....
glad you found a suitable replacement site on that network though.

you have to be very careful ...I allowed friendship from a guy?/girl? on a poker site that i met in a forum. That player was removed for cheating and because i was listed in friend list i was banned from site too...I've tried to get back twice both times denied. i went to the forum i met the person at,sent a PM, she replied and said she never had an account there....so the person i said yes to friend wasn't even the person i thought it was. This story falls on def ears when I try to get back on site ...I've given up trying but it is a bummer to have a bad mark on your "player name".....when you did nothing wrong.

I thought this rule very strict, but I can understand. I think that they should reinstall your chat after your explanations for putting your email on the chat.

Every Site has it's reasons/rules for banning chat.
Is chat necessary to play, not even a consideration in determining if to play on a specific Poker Site or not imo.

Your argument seems to be that you wouldn't be so stupid as to be so obvious about your collusion. There are a lot of stupid people out there - it shouldn't be on them to try and decipher just how smart or stupid you are. Giving out email at the table was a bad idea, IMO.

I played on pokerstars and found that a certain player and I were getting in the money or heads up relatively often, we chatted a lot and he put his phone number in the chat box. Weve been friend for years now, but in hindsight it would have looked very suspicious at the time!
