I am going to change my poker playing style.

I am going to try and go to NIT and Maniac Calling Station like WHALE!

I have good hands and when I try to play smart and fold, I tend to think I am getting bluffed out of a lot of profits. For instance holding Q high flush and a guy bets like he is holding A high flush.

I have two pair and a guy is betting like he has a set.

No More, if I hit anything its going to WAR time! I am tired of being ran over and bullied trying to be TAG.

I am going to be NIT and when I do, betting it like the other person isn't even there, so I am letting you know, I am going to be the WHALE that ate Jonah.

I know I am going to get hit by some crafty shark players and piranha players, but you better be crafty, otherwise, get ready to show me what you are holding and if it is JUNK you belong to me, I own you and will stick it to you.

You may be a shark, but I am going to be Moby Dick on you.

Get ready to be sucked out every way possible when you're not seeing offsuit 7-gappers.

You do know a "whale" in poker terminology means a rich guy that donates money to everyone at the table? :p

So basically you're going to disregard their hands & what they're repping.. & just be a calling station. And this is a step forward?

The odds are not in your favor my friend. That strategy works in spurts but in the long run you will get destroyed. I think you should try it out though, it might actually give you insight on how to improve your game. Mistakes are always beneficial. Just be sure not to lose to much money in the mean time ;)

OK this is officially my favorite poker quote ever :)

TravelerLloyd, like others have said, you have to be careful changing your style. But adding a slightly loose/stubborn component to your game can definitely be a good idea in wilder line-ups. Post some hands when you've played them that way and we can help make sure they look solid.

Dont go all the way to the river, just to fold. I read that somewhere. And it has stuck with me. If I think there is even a chance the other guy is bluffing, I'm mostly calling. Sure I have been beaten some times, but the times when I called and caught him bluffing, it sure changed his tune against me for the rest of the game.

I think megalodon would be a more relevant term than a balene that is more synonymous with great feast for sharks playing at the table. it is advisable to always respect the raises of your opponents especially if you know their frequency of bet. it's not the cards you have that matter but how you play them. In any case I wish you good luck for your next games.

if u think you're getting bluffed call and find out. practice in freerolls if you're wrong, no investment. 9 x out of 10 you're not being bluffed esp in micro stakes , if this is happening live at your casino, even if you are being bluffed why take the chance if you only have one pair or 2 pair that isn't that strong live to fight another hand. just my 2 cents

You can do that and adjust where your playing is all depending on the table your in you just adapt to the style of play you need to go with and hope you get lucky lots of the times when you have a calling station or players that keep raising you. Or you can be at a very tight table where you need to be the NIT and only play top hands. goood luck!

Of course, you need to change your game style. Sometimes you can see very aggressive players on your table and you just need to keep patience and try to wait for a good hand to be able to get some value.
In some situations, against some players i need to fold even pretty good hands.
I think the key to the wins is patience. Just don,t forget to fold in some situations and everything will be ok.

Oh, I thought it was a big fish that eats sharks.

Well I don't want to be a whale then. I am no where near rich!

From how everyone is explaining a Whale and NIT to me, this is not a good thing, but when I here people talk about them, they spend a lot of effort trying to play against them and act like they fear them.

Okay I am going to have to learn how to post hands for critique :)

I am not the smartest cookie in the bag, but I may be able to learn that with some instructions. I will do a CardsChat search.

The simpler the strategy is, the better and more efficient it is. I always try to wait for good cards and I rarely bluff. Personally, I do not like the aggressive style of the game.

Changing your poker style can be beneficial for you if players have 'pegged' your methods. On the other hand if all your going to do is play reckless and call everything then you may be about to start seeing your bankroll magically disappear.

This makes the most since to me. Because I have laid down two pair before and the guy showed me he had a busted straight, just bluffed me off of a strong hand and I have been on tilt for months now.

When I was calling them down with two pair or trips they would follow me to the river hitting straights inside and open straights and hitting their flushes busting my bankroll up.

I felt like an ATM for them. That is why I laid down the two pair when the flush hit on the river. Then he showed me he had nothing.

I don't know why no one respects my raises they are pot size or over pot size even all in and they will call that too. Makes me think when they see that much money on the table they feel like they must call instead of must fold!

Them implied odds I give them suck because my bankroll has me no longer playing cash games, but now I am down to ten cents tournaments and freerolls. What a sad state of affairs.

The service team at Bravado keep callin me asking me to make a deposit, shit I am already loosing, why add more to it than is already there. I cant feed everyone!
Dont go all the way to the river, just to fold. I read that somewhere. And it has stuck with me. If I think there is even a chance the other guy is bluffing, I'm mostly calling. Sure I have been beaten some times, but the times when I called and caught him bluffing, it sure changed his tune against me for the rest of the game.

hahaha. This is exactly what I thought about when I read this post.

To the original poster: Yes, there may be many banana players depending which table/MTT you join and maybe the buy-in means different things to diff people but this being "super maniac uncalculated risk" style is gonna get you long term beaten. Maybe what helps is to identify where you can adjust your game for an improvement... Wishing you luck in your future games. Don´t throw the towel down. Resilience one of the toughest virtues to implement and oh I have experienced those days too where nothing seems to make sense! Hold on. Keep learning
