I was at a casino(the Tropicana in AC) playing 1/2 nlh this saturday night. A guy who has been playing loose loses a medium size all in (maybe $400) and mucks his hand. There were two kings on the flop and I folded king rag pre flop and the winner who showed had k 7 and rivered a full house. The guy who mucked made a big stink saying he had the other king and the k7 winner rivered him. I called the guy out saying he was full of it and meant it good naturedly (it's poker we all lie). However some old guy sitting next to me said i shouldn't say anything because i folded preflop. Was I out of line? What do you think is proper etiquette at live poker games in casinos? Any general pet peeves about poker rooms would also be interesting and informative

FYI I'm a young player 26 years old and look like im 18. I have been playing poker for awhile but only have been going to the casinos for about a year.

u're perfectly within your rights and within poker etiquette in stating your opinion and that u had the other K. over at crown casino in melbourne, i've had a few old-timers try to impart to me what their version of poker etiquette is. it's really up to u to decide if it makes sense or not, a lot of what they say seems nonsensical.

I agree. I don't think you did anything wrong.
However, I generally try to be friendly but
passive at the table ( a weak Negreanu).
I want to keep a low profile to stay off the
radar and the last thing I would want to do
would be to antagonize other players - more
likely to give them reason to target you and come
after you - which probably isn't a good idea unless
your one of the stronger players at the table.

Money is at stake.

Lying is part of the game.

Personally, I read up on the rules of etiquette at the particular casino I am enjoying (just ask, they all have them available in some kind of pamphlet), and I NEVER violate their rules.

As far as some kind of general, everybody knows rules of etiquette, my experience sounds about as gray as yours. I have played in dozens of live poker rooms in Las Vegas, Southern California, and even a couple of cruise ships.

I would be careful with the information I have gleaned at any table. In your example, I would only disclose what I knew if I saw an advantage to me in doing so.

My parents play Vegas poker rooms and the first rule of thumb is manners. we shouldnt be calling people out, just looks a little tacky. And if your 26 and want to be a respected player than act like your 36. :) this isnt a game with your buddies at home.......

Telling him you had the other king is not only fine etiquette, it's important to reveal this in case the guy really did have a king and the deck is FUBARed.

I prolly don't disclose that I, in fact, had the case King. Not out of any sort of ettiquette or anything, but because I'm the only one the table, besides him, who is 100% certain he is FOS. Now, admittedly this is a minor bit of knowledge, but poker is all about acquiring knowledge and trying to fill-in bits of missing info, so........

Ettiquette wise, I don't think you did anything wrong. I just would have kept the info to myself for other reasons.

As far as etiquette, you did nothing wrong, it was after the hand was over.

As far as was it worth, probably not.
If this guy is a regular he will probably try to come after you and I don’t
think putting target on your back is a wise idea.
Keep the info to yourself remember what kind of player he is, and take
his money.

NEVER tell them your hand if you are not called,(and then, if they turn up the winning hand, muck yours if they let u lol) gives them free info, lets them know your range.

he folded preflop lol, why would it matter..

+ no-one at 200nl live would care about this tiny bit of info or would adjust to the fact that he folds K rag pre

the question was whether he was out of line calling the lying guy out, not giving away his own 'information'.. with Blue on this one, old nits need to stfu!

imo you weren't in the wrong for disclosing you had the case K, its up to you whether you wanna tell everyone or not but if you're trying to fly under the radar contradicting (even if you're right) tilted people who could cause a scene isn't the best line for you right?

you can do what you like, but really its not a big deal at all. (y)

IMO which carries little to no weight,
as I am such a bad player,
is that is sounds like this guy was tilted and spewing chips.

My number one reason for not saying anything would not be etiquette as I think that has no validity,
or information value as that was probably pretty evident to all at the table already
but my issue is that you want this guy happy.
Does that make sense?
If he is weak and dropping money make it as fun for him to lose as possible.
If he is strong and just running bad and trying to save face why pick a fight?
Just my very uneducated take on it.

I have had this sort of thing happen so much. Me i don't fully know my own sick, twisted reasons for what i do.I just try to see how far the guy will take it.I'll say something in the line of "wow i don't think i could have laid that down, what made you know he filled up on the river"???blah blah blah ask him about different lines he could have took "maybe you should have c/r turn and got it in,but calling prob saved you some green" etc. Then laugh my ass off when i go out for a smoke.

We all have the constitutional right to be an asshole...

Then you gain the privilege of dealing with the consequences.

Nothing wrong with your etiquette. I agree that you want to hold on to information that no one else has. But also the guy who told you it was bad etiquette is an idiot. Why would you tell any player to not say what they had after the hand is over. Free information.

Driving other players tilt is part of the game, as long as you aren't making personal comments, being rude, or causing a scene.

Driving a player to tilt could involve calling their bluff, not showing your hands, anything really. The point is to find their weakness and take advantage of it.

There is something to be said about whether you have a right to say something if you do not have any money in the pot, but I believe everyone at that table is already involved and free to say what they please.

If the hand is still in play, then it would be more than bad etiquette. After the hand, it's just irritating. Not bad etiquette.
