Why do you play; cash, glory or a combination of both?

Would you rather win 2nd place in a large field Bracelet event for a total cash of $455,000 or would you rather win 1st place in a smaller Bracelet event for a total cash of $400,000 plus a bracelet?

I just enjoy playing the game but I would always take cash over glory. Bigger pot = more glory to me. If I got to a level that cash no longer matter then I would probably enjoy collecting trophies.

It's not about the money... I really just hate to lose.

People think i'm money hungry, but i'm not i hate coming last or even 2nd it really SHTS ME!!!!!!!!!!!! i just think on the day no matter what cards i have i should be able to utilize different tools in my game to get the job done and just win.

When I reach the final table, If the first place prize is very large and I've already secured a decent place then I'll play for the win. Otherwise I take it one place at a time and see where it takes me, without being passive of course.

Usually I care more about the money than winning first place, bur the way you put it, I wouldn't mind winning a bracelet and $400K instead of $455K.

A bit of both for me. If I win in first place then I feel the satisfaction of achieving something and that hard work paid off. I rather take the biggest prix and also the fame. You only live once so go all the way with your 15 minute of fame :)

The extra 55k wouldn't change my life much so I would go with the 400k and a bracelet. If the spread between the two cash sizes becomes greater my position would change but I don't really know where the breaking point would occur.

If the difference is only 50 thousand dollars, then I would naturally chose the 1st place!! Well, if the time difference is 1.5 or 2 times, then the money will be more important!

If this is my first big money, then of course I choose the cash .. All such money is more important than any the glory , if I do not have much money

And the glory and the bracelet can come over time , it needs a lot of cash...

Well, if I choose the vote, of course I will choose 400k and bracelet, the difference is only 55k :D

If it was a vote the answers 400k+bracelete or only 800k , I choose money 800k... :)

there are more replies in this thread than votes. Don't forget to vote in the poll at the top of the page!!

I purposely set the dollar amounts kind of close to make the decision tougher. Obviously I think any of us would take a $800,000 2nd place over a $400,000 first place! :)

I think for me the cut-off comes around $100,000. If the pay out for 2nd place is $100,000 more then I'd prefer the cash. But less than that and I'd prefer the bracelet. But I am very competitive and play almost exclusively for the sport of it....

I voted for the bracelet but I am honest to say that if the difference in money would have been more (like 100k+) I would have chosen the money alone :)

I know this doesn't directly answer the question, but I hate losing too. I want to win when I play. The most obvious example is the Main Event. Finishing 2nd with that money is nice, but to get that close without winning would leave me with an empty feeling.

Money is glory. For me moving up in stakes is the goal, that's what make me feel proud. Besides in poker we are trying to make +EV choices. It's really hard to estimate the value of a bracelet, trophy or the prestige that comes with finishing 1st.

400k + braclet. My take and thought when i read the thread title before entering was that I'd like to make money first and then continue for glory.

The difference being "only" 55k, and i use that word lightly because 55k is a lot, and both being essentially life changing amounts (in regards to paying off everything I owe mortgage included) then I'd prefer the 400k and bracelet.

I voted for the money. Despite the disappointment of not winning 1st, $55k is still a lot of live tournament buyins at the lower levels.

This isn't even close for me.

Def 1st + bracelet.

I would probably rather take 1st in an event for 400k than take 2nd for 500k in another event.

I want the WIN.

After I got my first bracelet I would be content with $ in anything else. But to have that win, very hard to do .

Obviously money > glory. But with glory comes money. It is one of my dreams to take down a big tournament and i would give up some money for glory. Would rather end 1st in the wsop main event then 3rd in the big one for one drop if the difference in pay out is like 10% less for glory. Glory is something you can't lose. After glory i would take the money rather then win the WSOP main back to back. :D

Everyone forgot about this aspect..

I would like to think the bracelet, as I voted, but I expect it would be cash. Also it is good to remember that old Indiana Jones expression " Fortune and Glory". I suppose with one you can get other eventually. GL see you on Final Table at the WSOP and then we will ask each other the question again. :D :D :D
