Just started playing cash games rather than mini-tourneys, any advice on how to choose which level to play at?

depends what game you are playing and the size of your bankroll

for limit holdem which is what i play most the time you should have about 200x the big blind

for no limit you will need to raise that amount as the varience is greater

If youre new start from the low limits, even if you have loads of cash. Your mistakes wont be as costly and you'll beable to take the swing better without going on tilt that easily. Its also a good and cheap way to learn experience. In my opinion if you are new you should stay away from the no limit games, those can turn out to be very expensive. Stick to fixed limit for a while and move on when you get the hang of it. Thats what I did, just a thought. Good luck.

Devil is right. I am a decent poker player and have played for a long time. I didn't start on the big money first, because you have to see some money hands and learn the styles. You can learn a $5 lesson on porker or a $100 lesson quik best to get the $5 dollar and learn from poeple.

i have to agree with that advice.....i started out playing 0.50/1, and the first day i turned $5 into about $160 the first 5 hours....i started getting cocky, and thought i knew what i was doing... i went into the 1/2, then 2/4, and there is where i took a pounding...from purely in experience, so with that, i reccommend low limit tables to new players

Start low and work your way up.

Don't move up until you consistantly are beating a game for about 3 months.
When you do move up you should still only test the waters and slowly move in to the next limit.

If you get beat, just drop back down a level.
