Hi, We have a regular cash game once a week. A situation occurred at our last game that I did could not handle correctly.

The friend of one of our regular players has been watching us play and asks if She can join in. The table agrees to allow her to play with one condition: She May Not ask for help from any players at the table.

Its the last hand of the night 3 players are left in the hand, including the girl in s7.

s1 bets on the turn and s3 and s7 call

s1 makes a big bet on the river and s3 Folds

only the girl is left in the hand. She is having trouble deciding what to do call or fold.

after considerable deliberation, She shows her cards to her boyfriend seated next to her, who is Out of the hand, and he advises her to call.

Her hand turns out to be the winning hand as s1 was on a bluff.

s1 complains that she received help and should not have showed her cards to her boyfriend. What should have been the correct decision in this instance.

I am aware of a "1 man to a hand rule" but am not aware as to the correct ruling in this instance. We allowed her to win the hand much to the chagrin of s1.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much in advance,

Vinny

If the guy in s1 agreed I think it is ok for her to do that. It's his money on the line and nobody else is in the hand anymore.
If he didn't agree, she shouldn't have shared her cards in the first place.

The rule was decided before the game, "one condition, you may not ask for help from anyone". She should have lost any blinds already in the pot and the hand should have been dead:D:D

Thanks for the replies Abramo and B1. Is there a specific poker rule that this action violated? and if So what is the appropriate course of action. I personally did not think the hand should have been called dead, but im a newb how should i know.

Thanks again,

Vinny

The rule is 'One player to a hand' Her hand should be dead when she receives the advice and acts on it.

From the 2015 TDA rules

62: No Disclosure
Players must protect other players in the tournament at all times. Therefore players, whether in the hand or not, must not:
1. Disclose contents of live or folded hands,
2. Advise or criticize play at any time,
3. Read a hand that hasn't been tabled.
One-player-to-a-hand is in effect. Among other things, this rule prohibits showing a hand to or discussing strategy with another player, advisor, or spectator.

And here is the penalty from 66
B: A penalty may be invoked if a player exposes any card with action pending, throws a card off the table, violates one-player-to-a-hand, or similar incidents occur. Penalties will be invoked for soft play, abuse, disruptive behavior, or cheating.

Ethically the boyfriend should have said I can't help you, you have to play your own hand. Having said that, I agree with the others, 1 player per hand. Once she showed her hand to her boyfriend and asked his advice, her hand is DEAD and s1 wins the pot, especially since the rule of not asking anyone's help was a prerequisite to her playing. I wouldn't blame s1 to stop playing in future games after that situation. Just my opinion.

I agree with the above about one player to a hand. Did anyone try and stop the "help" from happening. As the host of the game, the host should have made an attempt to stop the action from occurring.

I agree that s1 got screwed; the new player may not have understood, but the boyfriend should have for sure. The host should have intervened, and if he's not going to enforce the normal and agreed-to rules he's not going to have a game for long. I hope there wasn't too much money at stake.

i don't know how was this particular situation, but if she is not very aware of how to play poker i don't see bad that she gets a little help even if the rules was that she couldn't get any help if it was on a friends game its not the best that she get bully by the other player
