Players who regularly hit cash games for their income are consistently smarter than the tournament counterparts.
You will also notice this to be true if you actually look at the 'famous' players and the ones that do better in tournaments than cash games.
To do well in tournaments where you're not playing with complete fish who kill each other off, you must enter a psychotic mind-state where you are willing to deal with variance in favor of your enemies tournament after tournament. If you'd been playing cash games, every tiny 'win' in that tournament and 'loss' wouldn't be hitting your bankroll as pessimistic in outcome because your upswings remain in your 'wallet/deposit'.
It really irritates me when anyone says that they are 'better at tournaments' than cash games, these players are simply so bluff-hungry that they lack the mental foresight required to get a fulfilling experience from cash game grinding and need the 'thrill' of putting their bankroll at higher variance situations? What kind of argument is this?!
Cash game player until I die.
