Hi Guys,

I think most agree that Harrington is the Bible for Tournament poker. Have we decided if there is an equivalent for Cash games?

I searched the forums, but either my search criteria were incorrect or its not clearly evident from the many book threads.

Also.... for a player of better than average ability.... that is break even... which Sklansky books are recommended?... he has so many!!!!

The cash game book I recommend most is Professional No Limit Holdem. It does the best job of explaining the thought process you need to go through at each stage of a hand and how to plan your hand from start to finish. When you make correct decisions early in a hand, the easier your decisions are later. This book explains best how to do all this.

Harrington on Cash Games would be my choice for cash games.

As far as your question about Sklansky, I would start out with Theory of Poker, it is fairly advanced, but the subject matter is very essential, and is referenced by tons of other poker books.

Well I dont believe Harrington is the Bible of Tournament Poker. Arnold Synders Poker Tournament Formula 1 and 2 are way better books. Just my opinion.

This^^^^^ Professional NLHE is easily the best book out about No Limit Cash Games. Also, Ed, Matt, and Sunny are just about finished with what was supposed to be Vol. 2 (It has since evolved in to a stand-alone book). I'm definitely anticipating it's release.

My suggestion

My cash game bible is not a book its a movie. My cash game bible is the movie rounders, if you watch that movie 7 times in a row that would be a good start. Then you always have the opportunity to refer back to certain clips to assist you in different situations. Greatest poker movie ever loved Damon get the ultimate poker bible "Rounders"

Rounders? Yeah its a great movie... but like all movies... its fiction....

I guess I should hand out Oreo cookies to all my opponents?!!

If after seeing one card in the hole, you can also determine the tells of five players who you have never seen play before and deduce exactly what hand they are on...... then you should be the richest poker player in the world!!!!!

I think I'll stick to the books.

Lol. Rounder is a good movie, I won't doubt you on that, but if you use that movie as a guideline to playing poker, then you are out to lose a lot of money.

Like Dantigua was saying, what are you going to do? Pass out Oreos to all of the opponents?

If anything, that movie shows some poor bankroll management, he lost all that he had on the one game.

Also, when he reads all of the hands of the judges.... come on, watching them for 30 seconds he read all that?

Great movie, just would never really even think about it while actually playing.

books in mi opinion are geared for live poker games,,yes u can learn a certain style ov play from them...the odds are there etc...but at the end ov the day ,poker come down to talent ...the higher up u play the more talent u need, and if i dere say bhalls to push players off hands with good reads, good reads and knowlage ..books can only piont u a certian direction for a player...remember the guys that right these books are masters at wat they do
