there are many reasons you should stop playing at a cash game

1. You are not playing at your best due to fatigue, other things on your mind

2. You no longer have an edge at the table

3. You're the sucker at the table

4. You've reached your stop loss

5. No action at the table

5. You want to stop playing

Number 5 seems to be really common sense but it is surprising how many people actually follow it. I have lost count of how many times I have said "this is my last orbit", "I would cash out, but I don't want to break the game", or "I'm going to stop at X time" only to find myself still playing long after my planned exit. When you want to stop playing, don't let anything stop you.

I usually set a time/stop loss when I sit down to play. Because of my work/other responsibility schedule I typically play 2-3 1.5hour or 2 hour sessions each day of the week and slightly more on the weekend. Seems to work pretty well for me.

set a time limit for yourself. That way your not set by the emotions of poker and know when to stop.

like gold said, or if i hit 3-4 times the money i sat down with i will git up and move to another table and finish out my time peroid there. if i'm running good and keep quading my starting amount i'll keep jumping tables that way i only have the actual starting invested

I normally buy in for the max amount at the table (i play nl10$) and if i double up i will tell myself something like "okay, if i keep winning im staying, but if i lose something around 15-25 bb i'll drop).
This way i don't end up losing it all.
I used to keep playing sometimes when i had doubled up, only to go from 10$ to 20$ then to 10$ and then i wanted to get my money back and i would lose.
