You have all been waiting for this one!

We are honored and excited to have pokerstars Team Pro Jason Mercier joining us at Cardschat! He will be in this thread soon answering questions from our members.

Date: He will randomly stop in some time after June 10
Time: as he can (playing WSOP!)

I will open this thread 1 week before Jason will be here so that some of you can get some questions in early. You can also post questions during the hour he is here - Jason will try to answer as many questions as possible in that 1 hour time frame.

What kind of questions can you ask? You can ask him questions about his poker career, about poker itself, you can ask him non-poker questions - anything you want as long as it is respectful and in good taste.

I feel confident that our members will be respectful and ask great questions. However moderators will be deleting any posts/questions that are not in good taste.

In an effort to share as much as possible with us Jason may skip posts that are irrelevant etc in order to get to as many good questions as possible.

Start thinking about what you want to ask him now!

Meanwhile if you want to discuss this exciting event you can do so here:

Welcome Vanessa Rousso, Chris Moneymaker, and Jason Mercier to Cardschat!

Jason will be in here at his convenience some time after June 10th to answer your questions. It may take him more than 1 visit to get to them all so please be patient - he is kind of busy right now to say the least!

So - thread is open - bring it on!

Jason - on behalf of Cardschat I want to thank you for taking time to come answer questions for our members. Good luck in the wsop this year!!

Jason, thank you so much for taking the time to allow us to pick your brain a bit.

My questions are about live tournament play.

I have had some success playing the local sanctioned/ranked NLHE series in the $110-$220 range but I seem to have much better/more consistent cashes in the $330-$1k events.

I realize its a tough question, not knowing my game, but why do you think one might fair better in slightly larger BIs?

My second question is about how the game is constantly changing.

Most recently, I find many very aggressive players like to 3bet, 4bet, 5bet, 6bet… with nominal hands and only adding a BB or 2 with each raise. They like to duel it out as if to see who will blink first.

Personally I prefer a 1/3 - 2/3 pot raise depending on relevant factors.

What do you think about these new methods of multi-raising and what other notable changes to tournament play have you seen of late?

Thanks again,

Chris in Reno

Thanks for coming here Jason.

What specific suggestions would you give for someone wanting to improve at playing Cash games on-line vs live?

My best, Wally

hello Jason

Do u have any tips to over come the mental hurdle of "During the tournament, afraid of call all in or shove all in by marginal hands especially during the late stage of the high buyin tournament" ?

And what is your idea/own experience to transfer from Holdem to omaha, or add different kinds of poker game to your poker career?

thank you and good luck for this years WSOP!

Thank you Jason, for your time, my question is:

You was studying to be a math teacher before becoming a professional poker player, these mathematical studies influence your current style of playing poker?

Of the different players you've faced in NBC HeadsUp (or WSOP HeadsUP Event), which few would be on the list of who you'd most like to draw as an opponent? And vice-versa, which ones were more formidable opponents (aka more difficult to play against).

What do you think about Phil Helmuth's nlhe HU game? (tourney-style.. not cash obv.).

Hi, Jason i got a few for you, thanks for taking the time to ask some question's.

How did you feel, after winning the WSOP for the first time?

What's your view, on online poker after BF?

When online poker comes back to the US will you comeback to the US and play again?

Would you try to help, get Pokerstars back to the US players?

What's your view on the DOJ setting up a remissions claims, vs letting PS pay back the US players on FTP?

Which game do you like more PLO or NLH, reason why you like one game over the other one?

What is your most memorable win - the one that meant the most to you? (even if it was not a 1st place)

Who are your best poker buddies - the guys (or girls) you like to hang around with when not playing?

Do you live outside of the US now - or do you split your time between the US and somewhere else so you can play online?

What is your favorite live poker event every year?

Is your family supportive of your career choice - and have they always been?

What an honor having you here is, Jason! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions, especially in the midst of the WSOP. Then again, you are apparently a pro at multitasking too! I was blown away when I saw this:

How often do you play 2 tables during the series? How do you maintain your focus?

On a totally different note, I loved the photo you tweeted of your "trailer"--looked more like a yacht on wheels to me. :D Being quite the RV enthusiast, I'd love to hear anything you'd like to share about your rig. How long have you had it? What do you primarily use it for?

Hello Jason,

First of all I am a bit of a fan of you, but what was your most exciting win so far?

Wich 3 players do you consider as the best no limit holdem MTT players?

Wich player do you love to have on your right in highstakes cashgames?

Did you ever visit Amsterdam and if so how was it there?

I have a fairly straightforward strategy for a 10-20bb stack. I'm almost never raise folding and pretty much just looking for a spot to get it in. However, recently I've been wondering if sometimes it's better to raise/fold in spots and raise call in spots where usually you'd just be folding or jamming depending on villains left to act. Do you think that it's ever a good idea to be raise folding off, say a 14 bb stack or would you just be getting it in and maximising your fold equity. I guess, is there any different ways to play those kind of stacks that is still profitable in your mind.

Thanks!

I think that he is a household name. Anyone who knows anything about poker has surely heard of Mercier! Top of the GPI for God knows how long, PS Pro and one of the best tournament players in the world.

According to this page;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Mercier

(apparently accurate as of the middle of May'13).

You are very accomplished. Yet you are not a household name. Is this by design? Are you comfortable in the limelight?

Agree with JohnBoy - households that have never heard of Jason have most likely never heard of many of the top pros - if any.

I think what DJ is getting at is that maybe Jason has purposely avoided really putting himself out there. (not sure if that is the case but Jason can address it).

Hi Jason;

Nice to have you here and thanks for doing this!

I'm not sure if you will answer this; but who would be your ideal woman in the poker community if you could choose?

Hey Jason,

What do you think of the recent events relating to the bank of Timex and the fact that people are selling shares with overpriced markups? Do you think Timex's actions will have any impact on the staking marketplace?

Jason, big time fan. Can you tell me your thought process about the hand in 2008 at the EPT San Remo event where you called the bluff with a pair of 5s. Crazy crazy call.

My apologies - Jason tried to log in yesterday to answer your questions and there was an issue with his account. (a big issue - I can't even find it lol).

It should be okay now and he will be back soon!

1. Who started The Hendon Mob? And what's the back story?

2. Did your mindset change after your EPT San Remo win?

3. When live, do you rely heavily on the numbers in a tight spot, or do you go for the reads?

4. Has coaching helped your own game.

5. Do you have a coach?

6. Do you prefer cash or tourneys?

Hi Jason and congratulations on your success.

Do you consider yourself a degenerate gambler?
