There is probably already a thread on this somewhere, but I didn't see one. My question for everybody is, how do you adjust your game when your just card dead. Seems like when I go card dead it lasts for one to three days and naturally thats when my br goes down. Some may say just take a day or two off, but I know the good players don't quit, they adjust their game accordingly. When I go card dead, I rarely get any face cards in the hole and when I do, it's just a rag to go with it. It doesn't seem to matter if it's a tourney or a cash game, stays dead everwhere. I try to really pay attention to the players, but as soon as you get them figured out, you get new players or moved to another table. I do manage to have a few opportunitys to play the player and not the cards, but it still helps to have something to back it up once in a while. Naturally I am card dead right now, have been for a couple days. Your opinions on this would be greatly appreciated, for now and in the future.
Thanks

The one thing that I can tell you is do not expand the hands that you DO play. When you're card dead, hands that you wouldn't regularly play will look very good to you - don't play them. Stay patient, stay disciplined and wait for your hands. They will come, everything usually evens out sooner or later.

Exactly. Card-deadedness is built into any profit expectations. Just as hot streaks are. If you catch aces 6 times in 100 hands, you should make more money over that 100 hands than average. When you're dead, you make less. It evens out. Unless you start to leak money out because you want to play. Gotta stay disciplined.

Card dead

Hey Bummer 2-3 days cardead that's a long weary streak indeed. In that situation it may be time to run a well timed bluff. Run a program on someone. call on the flop, checkraise on the turn .allin on the riv. Dangerous maybe but it should work with the tight table image you have established by being cardead .unless ofcourse you are unlucky enough to run into the nuts.

Going through that right now. I played a ton of FTP satellites and a ton of freerolls and can't hit the board to save my life. I played at an 18 and 27 person tourney. Made it to the final table at the 27 tourney and finished ITM at the 18. All card dead. How? longer blinds and folding my way to the final table. If you are not getting cards....then your not getting cards. That doesn't mean you should get desperate and lower your starting hand requirements.

If anything I really, really tightened up. AA, KK, AK, JJ, QQ only. I also did a little experiment at the 2700 person freeroll. I didn't play one hand...not one and finished at around #340. That kinda made me really re-think how to play those.

A direct answer to your question when you have a rash of dead cards and people are sucking out on you left and right:
1) NO turbo or super turbo
2) Tighten up your starting hands
3) Patience
4) Patience
5) Patience

Don't let this be a downer. Since Thursday I have only one a handful of SnG's and have been sucked out on so many times, they are all running together. Today was the worst, couldn't hit a barn door if my life counted on it.

i luv riding the swings of no limit so i wouldnt do it, but if youve established that your card dead and on a downswing, y not just go down a limit or 2 until you come out of it?? still get to play and minimise your downswing!! 1 thing i do if im card dead is to play another game like draw or stud 4 a change, (small of cource). just to take a bit of the grind out of it! prob not but hope it helps. Stay Patient!!!!
Ride out the hands as best you can for as long as you can.
I have been running lukewarm lately, making final tables but going out on the bubble and not cashing.

Do NOT start playing hands you normally wouldn't, do NOT go up in buy-in levels to try and make it back.
If you feel you have been playing the few hands you do get at your best then stay with it.
If you can honestly look at your play and say you are playing what hands you are dealt badly, then it's time for a break.

These things do come around, you will start getting the hands to play.

Good luck

Most everthing sounds good to me, and I will remember to re-read here when it happens again. I seem to be out of the card dead, but I'm not setting the world a fire. Just kinda staying a tic ahead, but I don't think I am playing exactly right after coming out of being card dead. This game is a lot like some of the other things I really enjoy doing. And what I mean by that is, if you want to be good at it, it turns into work, lol.

When I go card dead or catch a run of bad cards,I just slow down a bit.
Study my table and players alot more.
Pick my time to move and pick up my blinds.
Sometimes if you got a good enough read any two cards will do.

I you have a good game then you should trust it and do not start chasing hands which you would not normally play. If nothing is happening sit it out. You might get short stacked and when you do get the hand you then have to go withit and try and double up.

It definitley does. It's tough to be good, it's not an easy game. Just continue to trust yourself and play your best. Don't take a hand off, even when you're card dead.

If you think about it, it's good to have your hole cards come in streaks. If you are card dead, steal a few pots because you will have a tight image. It's also good to have all your huge hands come right in a row, as people won't believe you have a huge hand 6 times in a row.

Some days you're the dog....some days you're the hydrant.

That sig line made me laugh my ass off :D

Funny but nothing could be closer to the truth especially when it comes to poker. I guess the days you're card dead are the days of being the hydrant :p

I've had a few spells of card deadness myself, playing on pokerstars $3.40 SnGs... was doing really well in the SnG leaderboard I had about 340 points with only 12 tourneys played out of a block of 20, top of the board was about 540 points that week. So I had 8 tourneys to play and in good shape to make the money in the weekly leaderboards. Those 8 tourneys were the worst I've ever had. Any time I got a big hand (rarely) I was getting reraised by smaller pocket pairs, I'd shove they'd call and suck out. It was a horrible few days... my bankroll took a serious hit. Things haven't gotten much better, I'm still critically low... lets see how the tourneys I'm playing right now work out, one's a $3.30 MTT $5000 guarantee I'm sitting at 44th out of 1066 right now and the other is a 40FPP wsop satellite 2 seats to saturdays qualifier and right now i'm 13th in chips with 105 players left. Been having a hot streak of cards in both tourneys so far hopefully my luck has changed.

Wish me luck! :D
