What are the benefits of playing at a capped no-limit table? Wouldn't you just play limit or pot limit if that's what you wanted?

Noticed quite a few of these on Full Tilt. Are short stack tables and capped tables a good idea to protect your bankroll when first moving up to a new level? I can't see any other possible benefit.

If you play 100bb poker then don't play these when moving up, it's a different game because of effective stack sizes and the math that goes with it. Things like setmining go out the window pretty much as you'll rarely be offered the right implied odds.

Also, the rakes a killer on these tables, they were created for the rake machine's benefit :)

Also lets say you have a straight and you cap out and get called by a better straight. You could have lost a lot more it slightly restricts your losses in huge hands such as full house vs. better full house

Thanks. Yes, that's true but doesn't it also limit our winnings when we have the nuts... and also encourage fish to try and draw out on us?

Yah but u should also be stealing blinds and taking down smaller pots at the same time. Not every pot is capped out. It is true though you can also win less however if u attract multiple players to commit the cap when u have the stone cold nuts it is still very very profitable

Variance is a bitch in these games. Stay away unless you are a rake machine as peelie says.

Capped tables are not for me. You have no chance to go all in on a good hand if you want too. I had rather play NL tables. This get some of the donks out early too.

I've played them before and must say; I've had success however..my sample size is quite small so actually irrelevant.

They are profitable, it's just playing 20bb poker, which most people suck at.

The edge is tiny; but at the micros/low limits, you often see people flatting hands that are never going to be profitable when playing this shallow + stacking off with semi marginal hands which should be mucked. This is where the profit comes from.

I feel it's very simular to the 6max hypers at the early stages, you get a ton of fishes who call way to wide and thats where the $$ is.

Rake is a killer as people have said; but they are beatable and good for grinding out vpp's..

If you can handle variance and can put people on ranges etc then I think they aren't a bad choice and considering most micros/low limit tables have a ton of players per flop; they are going to be profitble to target all the terrible SS fish.

Last thing you want to do it try and get the donks out; just hope they keep reloading ;)
