I'm ready to make the plunge and buy some chips. I want to go with medium priced chips. Not top of the line, but not bottom either. Any suggestions on what and where to buy? On or off line? Has anyone had a good or bad experience with a certain place and why.

Oh! I just remembered! I think Tenbob and KillerKat have a shop where they sell these kinds of things! You may want to PM one of them...I think they can ship to you as well? Worth a shot.

I just picked up a 500 set from cosco (canada) for $50 and I think the weight was 13g. It has the metal case with a glass front.

I just got a set at Kmart, was on sale for $24.99 for their After Thanksgiving Day Sale it was 500 chips 11.5 gram 2 decks of cards and dice in a aluminum case. You can also go to >> shopwsop.com << they have some nice things but a little expensive. The same set i got at Kmart for $24.99 was at shopwsop for $129.95. Everyweek i see someplace with chip sets on sale, up here in Massachusetts. If you check the ad papers out you can find them pretty cheap, especially with Xmas coming. gl >>>>>>>>>>>>>>buckster436

ok buying chips is really quite simple, you get what you pay for. You can buy 11.5 gram chips for $20 or $120, the difference is huge if you intend to use them a lot.

Cheaper sets contain small flaws, not a huge issue when you look at a single poker chip, but massive if you like to stack em up (hi john).!!! In this way the actual weight is not a major issue, anything over 9g is fine. Just remember a good poker set is for life and i wouldnt go for anything under $50, unless your a casual player.

Not shipping to the US at the moment either folks sorry.

If you are looking for dirt cheap chips (i.e. the infamous "dice" chips that everyone buys first) you can pick a set of 500 up for $30 if you look around enough.

If you are not willing to spend $1 a chip for top of the line clays, I would pick up a simple clay chip set (simple color designs) for around $130-$200. You can get 500 real CLAY (not fake little plastic ones) for around this price. Lots of sites online have deals as well, just run a google search.

For general interest, I know that a company called ChipCo. makes wsop replica chips with all of the colors and values exactly the same as in the real thing. However, these sets run very expensive (1000 chips for $700ish).

Do yourself a favour, and actually buy REALLY GOOD chips straight away, if it is to much to bear on your own, then ask your friends to chip in aswell, i have played poker for 4 months and have already bought 4 sets of chips, 2 of them are 1000 piece sets, and in the end, YOU WILL WANT CLAY CHIPS, so get clay chips, PJCC are good, i also really like the nevada jacks, but they are expensive, 1000 piece set, all clay from PJCC is um i forget, im in australia, here http://pjccmall.com/cgi-bin/shop/index.cgi?DEPT=32050206&SPD= i bought these ones, they are good, if you want i have 1000 piece set i will sell of these http://www.direct2public.com.au/p/53053/the-mojo-royal-flush-1000-poker-chip-set.html, $200 australian
