Do you consider poker with buy-in as a form of betting?
I have encouraged my friends to play poker with buy-in, but they say they are against gambling.
I see it as a cost of entry, just as we watched a film in the movies ...

I see poker as having a skill edge, and not random numbers like say slot machines, pit games ect. I look at it the same way as entertainment, which costs money to do. So a buyin imo is just the cost of having fun. The same can be said for other casino and card games though so it can go either way. But if you have, or can have a skill advantage over your opp, and reguardless of what you are dealt, can win the hand/game/tourney unlike say slots or pit games where the edge is built into the game and its considered a game of chance is the differentiating factor in my eyes.

Try sitting down with yours friends and play cards first with no money involved, and then slowly introduce the game of poker once in awhile(maybe add chips:idea:) but still playing games with they enjoy also,,,that way nobody is `gambling` and just having fun:D

I can see it as both. Yes when you enter you are "betting" your skills are good enough to create a good return on the entry but I also view it as just a expense to play. If you like yo watch movies you will spend, $40 to go see the new movie where I like to play poker so I'll pay $60 to play in a tournament which I will enjoy
