Understand that you are playing online ... not live. There are obviously a lot of players out there online that have far more money than skill. A lot of credit for that kind of play goes to the media for the TV coverage that shows how big pots are won on sukouts ... the ACTION hands - lol.

This seems like something that would only happen in live play in the first place, unless he is playing really small stakes.. but yet how could he blow $150? Sounds like $1/$2 NL and they play pretty damn nitty.

I have been in the same boat as you are in. It seems to me this online stuff comes in waves for me. I'm either super hot and win alot or super cold and lose alot with not much in between. I have always liked playing live alot better myself. Another thing i do NOT do online is multi table. There is no possible way a man or woman could get a feel for players at there table while playing 7, 8, 9, or 10+ tables at a time. If you are playing multiple tables might wanna try playin 1 or 2 or 3. I personally do not like online poker near as well as live poker at a home game or casino. I took a break for a month or so and didnt play a single hand of poker.Try taking ya a break for a couple weeks and come back and try it again. Clear your mind and not worry about what has happened at start on a fresh note. Also you have to realize there are so many people online that dont have a damn clue what the hell they are doing. They see a commercial on TV advertising a poker site then BOOM that looks fun and they deposit a little $ and not have a clue what to do. I realize it is frustrating but hang in there.

If you aren't using BRM you're generally going to end up going broke over and over and over. I ended up going broke with my $20 BR because I started playing out of my limits. (I know it's small, it was from freerolls...) Alot of people use Chris Ferguson's BRM strategy.

His rules for bankroll management in cash games are very simple. Rule number 1: Never buy into a game for more than 5% of your bankroll. Rule number 2: If you have more than 10% of your bankroll on the table at one time You need to quit that game.

The second category is multi-table Sit 'n Go's and multi-table tournaments. For one table Sit 'n Go's the rule is very simple. Never buy in to a one table Sit 'n Go for more than 5% of your bankroll. For multi-table Sit 'n Go's and multi-table tournaments the rule is 2% of your bankroll. Never buy in to a multi-table tournament or Sit 'n Go for more than 2% of your bankroll.

Follow proper bankroll management and you will not bust out unless you go through a super downswing.

I had an awful weekend of poker as well. Was in 2 MTTs with awful suckouts.
1st one - blinds were 15/30 with several limpers so I popped it up to 330 with my pocket queens. Everyone folded but the one guy that had been running hot. Flop came 8-10-Q rainbow. He bet into me big so I pushed allin and of course he rolls over 9-J offsuit.

2nd one was very similar when my pocket 6s tripped up only to be outdrawn with the guy holding 5-3 offsuit catching his straight.

Anyways I would typically be pissed enough to go to a limit above my BR and blow a big wad. But this time what I did was go to a LIMIT holdem table and played tight position poker and grinded out pretty well. Im not saying Im strictly Limit now but I do think it gives me my poker fix without quite the risk of NL or playing MTTs that are above my BR.

Anyways, Goodluck with it

BRM like has been mentioned before....but also, you need to understand that on-line and live are two separate animals. for me it was quite an adjustment.

Good luck on your new venture.

BRM is not the problem I have plenty of money playing good poker and winning is the problem and maybe I am not as good as I think or maybe since only 5% of the players make money when we lose we should just call it entertainment fees LOL

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! what do I do?

playing 50/1.00 on PS

If you read Dusty's book he's talking 200 buyins for his play level; 0.50/1.00 = $100 buyin = $ 20,000 bankroll.

A 200 buyin bankroll is conservative, but I think losing 1.5 buyins in a session should not even be a concern, but then you shouldn't be playing with a 1.5 buyin bankroll. Even standard bankroll management is 20-30 buyins, meaning with a $150 bankroll you don't have enough to play 0.05/0.10.

And a lot of people will say that the 0.05/0.10 is equivalent to playing $1/$2 live.

Lose, push, lose, push trying to win it back. Take a break or play micro till you feel good about the game again.

Everything is BRM but If youre doing that then losing $150 shouldnt matter and you understand the ups and downs of poker. But It seems like you dont use BRM and wonder why people play bad.

Fact is, people play bad because they have money. Some people dont read poker books, they dont go on poker forums and they dont care how youre "supposed" to play. They just gamble and have fun. Thats a fact. So you have to hope luck is on your side because they dont click the fold button, they chase hoping to hit runner runner and most of time they will be your ATM machine and you HOPE they never leave the table.

GL on the felt and use BRM.

You'll have seen above where someone posted the standard "not more than 5%" rule. I'm usually comfortable about about 25 buy ins, so assuming you're buying in for $100, I -personally- wouldn't do it without $2,500 actually deposited on the site. Other money doesn't count in my book, due to potential hassles about depositing. I've only done it once.

If you want to try something out, you can, just realize you're effectively nuking that portion from your bankroll. I did that with HU SNGs a while back. No idea if I was going to run +EV or not, so now and again I'd play one thinking about it as if the decision to play was putting a match to the bills. If doing so is a threat to the BR, don't do it, and yes, if you're the kind of person who will lose, lose, lose and keep playing to try to win it back, you have to factor that in. If you have a $500 BR and want to put $100 on a table, I personally would find that acceptable as long as a $500 and $400 BR is essentially the same to you in terms of risk of ruin, you are a winning player, and you're committed to going back to whatever you win at if you lose the $100. You are compartmentalizing the risk. You're gambling with $100, and BRMing the balance. If you don't have discipline, that will end badly.

Online waves or like a rollercoaster. Your climbing and winning money and just as fast you spiral down. Like try different games, free rolls and play little less when these spirals hit. We have all been there, in away it's what drives right back to the table. Hope it changes soon for you, good luck.
