I've always played a variety of games online and it seems that it has probably taken a bigger toll on my BR than if I had just stuck with one type of game.

Example-like if I lose a few SNG's in a row, ill switch to cash games, and end up losing again. I assume I probably should have just stuck with the sng's but I just get kind of frustrated and switch it up.

Does varying game types a lot take more of a toll on your downswings generally? rather than just sticking with one type, whether it be MTT's, Single table SNG's, or cash games.?

Also what is the general rule for BRM when it comes to MTT's, mostly 90 person and 180 person tourneys? What buy in amount should I be paying with a $200 BR to be safe?

Im a decent player but I know I have some leaks in my game. I am however learning tons of stuff on this site. This is a topic I thought I might get some good insight on.

It depends on who you talk to about BRM and how nitty you want to be. You should buy into a MTT for no more than 2% of your BR, SNG's 2% to 5%, you really want to stick closer to the 2%. For cash games you should have around 25 buyins. So If you are playing 10nl, the max buyin is $10.00, you should have $250.00 in your BR. There are many players that will play cash with with 20 buyins. Again it's up to you on how nitty you want to be. Just remember the more of a BR nit you are the more padding you have for downswings.

As far as game selection goes. It doesn't really matter to me. I make more money consitantly playing cash. However, the chance at a big payday makes me play MTT's and multitable SNG's. If I were you I would focus on cash and work tourny's in on the side. However, there are a lot of players that play mostly MTT's and SNG's. It's really up to you as a player. The most important thing is proper BRM, which you are asking about. You also want to study and learn the game, which you are doing by being a member here at CC. So you are on the right track. I hope this helps you. GL on the tables!!!

It does help a lot. Hit all the points I needed. Thanks Trigga. I'm very happy to have stumbled across this site the other day.

When i started playing poker i was pretty much always playing mtt's, as do a lot of people when they start out i imagine, since feb i've been focusing on 100% cash games but on the side, when i have the time, i still like playing mtt's, for the "big payday" factor i think.

I prefer though to stick to a 1% rule for the mtt's i play, it's really nitty i think as i'm playing $3 mtt's with a $375 bankroll but with my main focus still being on cash games i don't want to risk too much of it playing in mtt's, something i'm nowhere near as skilled at compared to cash. Still though, theres plenty of 3k,5k guaranteed tournies on stars in this price bracket so it keeps me happy :D

Varying your game only takes a toll when your not practicing good brm across the board, for example, i play 4-10 tables of 10nl cash games at the moment but that doesn't mean i can go buy in to the sunday 250k for $11 just b/c thats close to what i'd buyin for at a cash table, the variance in mtt's, as you probably know, is huuuuuuggggeeee, so just keep a sensible head and you should be fine.

I play in the 3k guaranteed 6max @ stars for $2.20 whenever i have a spare 5hrs at night, first place for that is nearly 1k most of the time so you can still have a big payday one day and stick to good brm rules :D

Good luck
