does any1 do the same eg: Say u only have $70 on ur pokerstars account and there is a $33 tourney about 2 start. So u pop out ur credit card which u have +$1000 on deposit $33 and play in the tourney for a bit of fun + a larger win back ratio. Plus if ur a decent player i tottaly agree with this. I've started to this recently bcos those micro tournies are fun, but i feel that i have the skill and confidence to win these higher stake tournies.
Jus a random thread. Cheers guys!!

Bankrolls vary from player to player.

Myself, for example, has never deposited my own money on a site, and I never intend to. Therefore, whatever money I have on the site (from stakes and freerolls, then subsequent cash/tourney winnings) is my bankroll and I very rarely break my br limits. Only times I do are calculated risks that have been thought through.

But if I didn't care and didn't mind spending money on poker for entertainment (regardless of winrate, etc) then I wouldn't mind depositing enough to play a bigger tourney here and there. But seeing as my bankroll is fixed, I very rarely take big chances like that. That's just begging to go broke :)

Well I personaly dont deposit money just to play a tourney and agree with Emperor. I have deposited initialy on our local site (Im South African) and donked it away....then found CC and have clawed my way back to running purely on "thier" money.

As to the other sites I have never deposited money for a couple of reasons
1) Exchange rate - Currents $1 = approx R8 $33 = R264 which i quite a bit of cash here
2) Number of people - With so many peopple on Stars / Tilt etc Im bound to run in to that donk that'll call me with nothing and suck out :p

With that bveing said however I may break my Bank Roll Management limits occasionaly. eg Played in a R80+R8 MTT where the top 27 were guaranteed a payout and there were only 29 peopple playing.

Everyone wants to break their limits, it's just so hard sometimes to watch those big-payout tourneys pass by. I don't see a problem with someone depositing just to get into a higher stakes tourney, except that it might cost you some cash. Always brings some excitement to the game.

depositing alot of small amounts is -ev because of bank charge $5 for cash advance each deposit.:eek::eek::eek:

Hehe well anyway if you have 1k in cash money to play with then a $33 tourney is fine...

Its too easy a habit to get into in my opinion. Once you've bought into a big game, its hard to slip back into the micro/low stakes games.
I've no problem playing tourneys out of my limits OCCASSIONALLY, but if im playing $5 max for example, I wouldn't dive straight into the $30+ games, instead maybe i'd step to $10/$15.
Full Tilt and Stars both run big 'guarantees' for a variety of stakes. Sure, a $50k guarantee with a $50 buy-in will get a smaller field than a $5 buy-in with the same prize pool, but these are the options offered that allow lower stakes players to play for bigger prizes.
Why not just deposit to boost your bankroll and play a higher level instead of depositing for the big individual games?
The only games i'd deposit to play individually are the FTOPS or similar.
Other than that, i'd either attempt to satellite into the bigger games or pass on them.
