How often does the board pair on the flop ex. 10 10s 8h ?

The reason I ask is so often I have QQ+ and the board pairs and then I'm stuck winning a small pot or loosing a big one. Maybe the flop has a pair on it more often that I realize.

Also how do you play big pair QQ+ when the board pairs like my example?

Independent of hole cards, odds of board pairing are:

1-(48/51)(44/50) = 0.17 ~= 17%

Playing it is dependent on so many factors such as preflop action, your image, opponent's image, specific flop, position, etc.

Finally someone that posts a response that isn't something like "you are an idiot it the board pairs like umm all the time, donk".

TY man I really appreciate a straight forward answer. I guess it's just bad timing lately with the board pairing and villains having trips.

Odds of flop containing a pair but not trips

The first card can be any card in the deck, the second can't match the first, and the third must match one of the first two. So the odds are (52 x 48 x 6)/(52 x 51 x 50), or about 0.113. So you should only see a paired flop once each nine deals on average.

I know someone out there might be thinking, "Order doesn't matter," and that's true. We've negated order by ignoring it on the top and bottom of the fraction. In other words, there are six different orders in which we can choose three particular cards, let's say As, Th, and Ad (As Th Ad, As Ad Th, Th As Ad, Th Ad As, Ad As Th, and Ad Th As). Similarly, there are six different orders in which we can choose three random cards. The six in the numerator cancels the six in the denominator. :)
