The worse part of my game has to be my significant other, and I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing any similar problems. Even sitting down in front of the computer has turned into a constant struggle with my wife. I don't know what it is but she is so anti poker it's ridiculous. Today she told me that I should do more manlier things and get an outdoor hobby...are you kidding me?! Please fellow CCs gimme some advice on how to handle this and no one even say get another hobby because I love the game and I'm not leaving any time soon. Anyone else had to deal with similar issues and what did you do to get past it? I'm not a drunk, I'm not running around cheating, I work hard and I pay the bills, I don't think I'm being too unreasonable here

When my wife met me she knew I liked to play poker, and I made her well aware of what that entailed. So in my situation I set the guidelines early, and I'm sure it helps that I win too. I also made a nice little set up where she is welcome to come chill out with me, where she can do anything she wants and be very comfortable.

You're not being unreasonable. Simply put, she is. I'm sure she has hobbies and I doubt that you encroach upon her territory in that respect, so as long as you ain't losing enough to make considerable ripples outside poker then it is none of her business.

I have the same problem with my mother, she seems to think I'm some crazy gambler all of a sudden. . .Pffff, women.

Very true....haha no I don't Lose I only roll in freerolls and micro tourneys. Nothing even remotely close to where it hurts the budget, I have a part time job and even then it's really a woodworking hobby that I make and sell products, even then with whatever little money I make from that's what I use to play with if I do make a deposit. When we first got married I would spend hours in front of the computer so I'm sure she has a bad taste in her mouth from it.

It's probably not about poker at all - it's probably more about spending time.

But has been said by others responding to similiar situations - When I point to the new computer, the new big screen TV, etc and say "poker" (the same intonation Johnny Depp uses when he says "pirate") the attitude quickly drops.

1) Win something
2) Cash out
3) Buy her shit

You're welcome.

Is it specifically poker she doesn't like, or would she like you to spend more time with here?

If your a winning player perhaps show her, let her know the extra income is useful.

If your a losing player, perhaps her dislike is justified

My wife used to have a problem with me playing online. One day i showed her the monies from my time online. It wasn't a king's ransom but it was enough to leave my "hobby" alone.

Your pretty much screwed unless she changes her mind and somehow starts to like poker. Women think just because they have the pussy they can say and tell you to do anything they want, cuz if you dont then they hold out on you. Its like the chick who send 5k texts a month on her phone and stares at the thing for hours, but then she sees a guy somewhat nerdy guy playin video games alot and brands him a loser. Most of them are control freak hypocrites:eek:

I was @ my local casino a playing $1/$2 no limit holdem cash games.Across from the tables is a waiting area for non players. My wife was standing over there staring a hole through me.She kept pointing to her wrist & I could read her lips,"Times up let's go". I done prob like any other guy would have done & said," 1 more hand".The other players started noticing her doing that.So I finaly said gg all & left the table. The next time to the casino I went without her & profited $275.She liked that... but the deal was I had to give her some.So thats how it works for me to play. Its kinda like I'm being staked .but she has no money involved.

I think it might be about attention, try giving her more attention and then asked her if you can go play poker! See if that works.

This went way better than the one and only time I ever went to a casino with my wife. She sat out in the car crying the whole time.........

"Today she told me that I should do more manlier things and get an outdoor hobby."

Take your laptop outside and play poker...not much she can say...you took your hobby outside like she asked you to do. Good luck!
