Just because u might have been unlucky in the past dont play it "scared", it is still the 3-4th best starting hand in nl

AKs is actually the 5th best starting hand after AA/KK/QQ/JJ and should be played aggressively preflop and then carefully postflop. Post some of your hand histories w/o results in the HA forum to get some advice on how you are playing AKs.

If you just give up on AK if you dont hit the flop, you will lose alot of money with it. You need to c-bet and play it aggressively, for it to continue to hold its value. If you play it as aggressively as a big pocket pair, you will get alot of guys to fold their hands.
Now AQs on the other hand...

AK is a 70% winner for me in tournaments and an average of 530 chips won over all AK hands. So will you run AK into AA sometimes, sure, will it happen more than 10% of the time, no.

Well this is probably your problem. AK excels in an isolated pot (max 3 way and ideally HU) and in order to isolate you have to raise an appropriate amount preflop.

If you aren't sure how to play AK, then you can just follow generic advice, which should work ok. Raise enough preflop to try and get only one caller (so if you are on the button and have 3 limpers before you then you might pop it up to like 8x BB or something but if you have no limpers before you then 3 or 4x BB is probably fine). If you miss the flop you can throw out a c-bet to take it down after the flop if it is a 2 way pot, but the important thing is to be willing to let the hand go if you miss the flop and meet resistance. Isolating greatly increases the chance that your one opponent will miss, whereby you pick up the pot whether you hit or miss, and it greatly increases the odds that when you hit TPTK it is the best hand (not necessarily the case in a 4+ way pot)

fwiw 88 against random is 69%, so does that mean that 88 > AK as well?
