Profit does come from big hands known as coolers like AA vs KK or set vs set or a full house vs flush etc, but profit doesn't come from just these big hands.

Lots of profit comes from being an aggressive player and making the most of playing pots in position. Make players pay for their draws when you have a vulnerable hand and exert use of pot control to help you lose the minimum / gain the most value from hands. Reading the opponent is also important as a well executed bluff can increase your profits further.

In contrast to casino games the profit comes from your opponents and not from the house.

In poker You make a profit if you do what casinos usually do. You offer the other players opportunities to make losing bets. If You get your chips in as a favorite you should see a profit in the long run.

I find it also comes from never missing an opportunity to see the flop cheap. Unexpected hands make me more money than big hands. Big hands can be volital. Also i hate how quickly everyone is to go all in preflop. No 2 card hand is worth your whole stack. There are Exceptions of course. Its like A + anything is enough for many to go all in preflop. It drives me crazy lol

Profit, it comes from value your hands correctly and your oponents hand, and bet accordingly to maximize your potential winning on a specific scenario. Or being able to fold, from the same procedure to minimize your loss.

Very interesting question! You might want to check out Tommy Angelo's books, they're great and they talk a lot about this question. The basic idea he has is that money flows to you (i.e. you profit in the long run) based on doing things better than your opponents. So if you have AA > KK all-in preflop with short stacks, you don't profit because your opponent would have done the same thing. But if you make a great fold or call based on math and reads, then you profit because your opponent would have made a different decision.

we can have AA preflop. it's always the flop that dictates its law. You must always try to have a maximum game and dominate or at least analyze and manage the style of your opponent's game.

Profit needs to come from many different sources. If you only rely on somebody getting a big hand against your bigger hand, then you will not be profitable in this game. Those situations don't arise all that often. Granted, you still want to take advantage of those situation. In order to be profitable, you must make better decisions than your opponents regardless of the situation. This only happens if you have a solid understanding of the basic concepts: starting hand ranges, aggression, appropriate bet sizing, etc. The goal is always to maximum your gains and minimize your losses.

Profit in poker is taken when you play better than your opponents, that is, you know which cards you should play and which cards should not be played, poker is a game with incomplete information, you can say that this is a creative game, you know when you can bluff and in what boards and boards, and when you are not worth bluffing. You also know push-fold well and always put up better than your rivals or they just fold and they are afraid of you, thus you push and win.
