Out of curiousity, does anyone know who the losers are in these games? There's plent in print about the winners - Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, David Bentamine, Barry Greenstein, Dan Negreanu etc, etc, etc, but who are they winning the money from?

Rich business people mostly and some from people that normally play lower stakes and take a stab at these big games.

Edit: And of course Mike Matusow :)

And each other. Just because you have a name does not mean you have cards. I am sure some of them go out on the bubble just like we do, just not as often. :icon_porc

And each other.
On a day to day basis of course, but long term if all the big name pros are winning, then someone's got to be losing (take into account rakes /tips as well).

P.S no bubble in ring games!

Andrew Beal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
-------------
A blackjack player in his youth, in 2001 Beal began visiting the Bellagio in Las Vegas to participate in high stakes poker games, especially heads-up Texas hold 'em. During several visits between 2001 and 2004, Beal played a syndicate of professional poker players known as "The Corporation", which included Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson, Todd "Darkhorse" Brunson, Ted Forrest, Jennifer Harman, Howard "The Professor" Lederer, Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, Barry Greenstein, Chau Giang, and others.
Beal hoped to force the collective group of pros into such high stakes that their play would be influenced by the amount of money at risk. By the end of their encounters in 2004 they were playing $100,000/$200,000 Limit Texas Hold 'Em heads up with more than $20 million on the table. This story was chronicled in Michael Craig's book, The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King: Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time.
While the games outlined in Craig's book ended in 2004, Beal returned to Las Vegas from February 1-5, 2006 to again take on "The Corporation" in a $50,000/100,000 Limit Hold 'Em match at the Wynn Las Vegas Casino. Opponents included Todd Brunson, Jennifer Harman, Ted Forrest, and others.
On February 5, 2006, Beal was down $3.3 million (USD). He then returned to the Wynn a week later, and won approximately $13.6 million from the Corporation during daily poker sessions from February 12-15.[1] The games resumed February 21-23, with Phil Ivey representing the Corporation against Beal at limits of $30,000/60,000 and $50,000/100,000. During these three days, Beal lost $16.6 million to Ivey.[2]
Beal is recognized as the poker player who won more money in a cash game in a single day than any other known poker player. On Thursday, May 13, 2004, at the Las Vegas Bellagio, Beal won $11.7 million from Chip Reese, Hamid Dastmalchi, Gus Hansen, and Jennifer Harman.[3]

I was under the impression people who are rich outside of poker are their bread and butter - "Sure, I lost $20K in a night... but I got to play against Doyle Brunson!"

My impression too, and the reason for doing the thread. The big pros like to be pictured playing big hands against each other, but here are some of the big game regulars i'm aware of

- Doddery old porn sleazeball Larry Flynt (does $100K a month in the Big game apparently)
- Circle du soleil owner Guy Laliberte - let David Benyamine off of a big pot saying "you need the money more than I do" (he says he makes $2Million a DAY).
- LA Lakers owner Jerry Buss
- Celine Dion's husband, Rene Angelis

:D

Nice. Poker must run in his company actually, we had a bunch of Cirque Du Solei staff become regulars in one of the games my company deals when they toured here last.

I think you also have pros playing at lower stakes most of the time, and stepping up to the big games once in a while. These pros that are new to the highest stakes lose some money to the greats, or they make a little and move back down to smaller limits. Once they get a bunch of money from doing this a few times, they play with the big boys for a longer period of time, and end up losing some loot.
