So, it's 05.00 GMT and I'm sitting here wondering whether the standards of play are different at different times of day or week and whether that has an impact on ones relative standing in a tourney or cash game because of the status of the other players. For example, most people work Monday to Friday during day time hours, so casual players are less likely to be playing then, so do you meet a tougher opponent at those times, or do the tougher opponents hang around waiting for thos casual players to turn up, so you get more variance in the evenings and at weekends? Of course taking into consideration the relevant time zone differences!

I dunno! What do you think? Or is there some research somewhere which provides the answer, or do you just have a preferred time or day to play poker?

Thanks

My opinion

In my opinion, the competion is simliar its just you play more people during peek hours. So tournies are harder to win. With cash games the people that worked, i think are tired and you can jump on them. Not to mention people have a ****tail around them loosing up the game more.

There's quite a big difference in the play at different times throughout the day. I try to make a point of playing within same 2hr. window each day (give or take an hour or two).

Yes I think you make good observations there and I agree with them.

But in PokerLand fish and sharks swim 24/7

I tend to play in the evenings when the tournaments are tailored for higher volumes of players and also because I am at work prior to that, Usually with a ****tail in my hand as well :)

Well, I once played a freeroll tourney at like 3am and everyone had sat out. Couldn't stop smashing that raise button and keep raking in the chips. :D
So, if you feel fresh, give tournament a try at midnight.

My tip. Play at time before some popular sport is starting and after it ended.
Sport fans are betting and when not wathing the game, they are spending some money on poker also.
Of course it only works on poker rooms with wide betting offer (most of them now), and also on low stakes (not micro).

I prefer morning or early evening hours. My focus and freshness are way more important than a shark's schedule or fish peak hours. If i'm rested and focused i dont mind facing anyone. So, it's more of a personal thing than trying to adjust to the rest of the world.

Jason Summerville in his Run It Up vid says something relative to this, along the lines of: It seems you will find that the players up at odd hours fishing for games are typically pretty great, and if you get in a short handed game in the wee hours of the morning you are more than likely gonna find some sicko(s) just looking for action.

It would seem logical to expect that more common players will be found at more common hours. That when the site is flush with players that there will be more weak players to choose from, and games to pick from. The sheer number of weak players will rise, and not that that indicates a raise in frequency of fish, it simply states, when there are more games and more traffic, there will be more to choose from, and with the increased diversity in the field, it will be more likely to find a table suited to a player's particular strengths, logically. More volume means more opportunity for diversity. I'm guessing the difference in these players that Jason S. refers to have much to do with players that are so strong they are able to adapt to any table, and conditions and fid a way to profit, so in the lesser volume times, it would seem the strength of the most adaptable players will shine...
just my 2 cents

I like to play poker in the night. It's the best time for me. Nothing happened and you can have great fun on the tables. When there is late night there is more players from brazil and other Latin America countries They are the best opponents in poker! It's not football! ))))))

I actually prefer to play first thing in the morning, which i think is europian night time.
I prefer this time due to kids and their multiple devices they use on-line.

I love to play when football games are on. I've noticed the volume is higher and the play seems more loose. I attribute this to sports betters trying to chase their losses of spend their winnings at the table.

prime time american hours are good on the american friendly sites. Late at night on weekends is good too because I think drunk college kids come home and play a bit.

I'm really not sure myself. Sometimes it seems like evening games are softer and people are looser with their chips, and sometimes it seems like morning games are easier for me to win. I really can't seem to place it at all.

Dear BentleyBoy

I play in the EST & I find that usually no matter what poker site you play on the usual action between 4-9AM is the slow times, but you will also be playing people that having been playing all night so there are fish. From 9AM-4PM action is decent with a lot more players, but there are a lot of regulars(retirees of stay-at-home parents) on at this time. The time from 4PM-1AM is the busiest of the site & a lot of tables going. This is where you will find at least one fish per table & the action is great. From 1AM to 4AM action is less & people are trying to get back their losses so they will be chasing flushes/straights so if your hands hold that is also a great time to play. I play different sites & that is what I found out to be most common.

For US-friendly sites... sure. No doubt. But for bentley & others in the thread it is not the case

Poker depends from psycology, maths, and luck with this row. So the most important is in what contition you are!
